<span>Le journaliste et militant communiste Henri Alleg, qui fut l’un des premiers à dénoncer la torture pendant la guerre d’Algérie dans un livre-choc, saisi au lendemain de sa parution, La Question (1958, éditions de Minuit), est mort mercredi 17 juillet à 91 ans.</span><span><br></span><span>Témoignage de la torture perpétrée par l’armée française, qu’il avait subie en tant que directeur d’Alger Républicain (journal du Parti communiste algérien), son livre a été un immense succès avec 65 000 exemplaires vendus au jour de sa saisie, le 27 mars 1958. Quarante ans plus tard, Henri Alleg confiait à L’Express : «Je savais que si j’étais arrêté, je serais torturé, j’y étais préparé (...). Je n’ai gardé aucune rancœur à l’égard de quiconque; je considérais ces gens comme les instruments méprisables d’une politique».</span><span><br></span><span>«Alleg a payé le prix élevé pour le simple droit de rester un homme», écrivit Jean-Paul Sartre, et François Mauriac, dans son «Bloc-notes» du 27 février 1958, parla d’un «témoignage sobre» ayant «le ton neutre de l’Histoire».</span><br></br></br></br>
