Cette bibliographie sélective recense des documents en français et en anglais parus majoritairement dans
les dix dernières années. Le concept d’aliénation parentale et le syndrome d’aliénation parentale ont
été recherchés dans plusieurs bases de données telles que PsycInfo, Francis, dans différents
catalogues de bibliothèques ainsi que dans le web.
Lorsque disponible, un lien URL mène directement vers le texte en ligne ou vers un résumé de l’article ou
du livre. Les références repérées sont classées une seule fois selon leur sujet principal dans les
rubriques nommées plus haut. Toutefois, nous sommes conscients que de nombreuses références
auraient pu être classées dans plusieurs sections à la fois.
Il y a plusieurs définitions de l’aliénation parentale ainsi que de son syndrome. Nous vous présentons
celles-ci :
« Trouble de l'enfance qui survient presque exclusivement en contexte de disputes concernant la garde de
l'enfant. Sa principale manifestation consiste en une campagne de dénigrement injustifiée, menée par
l'enfant contre un parent. Cette situation résulte de l'endoctrinement de l'enfant par un parent qui use de
stratégies de programmation (lavage de cerveau), combiné aux contributions de l'enfant lui-même à
l'avilissement du parent visé. » (Gardner. 2002, p. 95, traduction libre.)
« Il y a une différence entre l’aliénation parentale et le syndrome d’aliénation parentale, bien que les
symptômes ou ce qui est observé chez les enfants puissent être semblables. La distinction entre les deux
est que l’aliénation parentale gravite autour de la façon dont le parent aliénant se comporte envers les
enfants et le parent ciblé. Les symptômes du syndrome d’aliénation parentale sont les comportements et
les attitudes des enfants envers le parent ciblé après que l’enfant a été effectivement programmé et
gravement aliéné par rapport au parent ciblé. » (Darnall, 1998)
