Là Béatrice le quitte et c'est saint Bernard de Clairvaux qui devient le dernier guide de Dante. Il adresse une prière à la Sainte Vierge et finalement Dante s'éteint complètement en Dieu, l'«Amour qui meut le ciel et les étoiles».
