Acknowledgments
As in the first edition of Juvenile Justice Administration, the goal for the second
edition is to provide an explanation of the processes and issues related to the juve-
nile justice system and to present a description of the roles (tasks) of administrators
of the various agencies that compose the juvenile justice system and those adminis-
trators who work with either private or public agencies that provide services to
children and their families and cooperate/collaborate with the various agencies that
compose the juvenile justice system. To achieve this goal, not only was a great deal
of research required but also considerable input by way of interviews with practitio-
ners who administer the juvenile justice agencies and, through their leadership, con-
tribute toward the achievement of the goals.
The production of the second edition of Juvenile Justice Administration: Process
and Issues would not have been possible without the assistance of many individuals
who contributed through agreeing to serve as co-authors of certain chapters, were
willing to be interviewed, and provided information on the agencies in which they
were employed, or offered assistance in the editing of the manuscript.

About the Author
Peter C. Kratcoski earned a PhD from Pennsylvania State University, University

Park, Pennsylvania; an MA in sociology from the University of Notre Dame, South
Bend, Indiana; and a BA in sociology from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre,
Pennsylvania. He was selected for several postdoctoral grants by the National
Science Foundation. Peter taught at the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota,
and at the Pennsylvania State University before assuming the position of Assistant
Professor of Sociology at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, in 1969. He retired as
Professor of Criminal Justice Studies and chair of the Department of Criminal
Justice Studies at Kent State University, where he is currently a professor emeritus
and adjunct professor. He has published many books, chapters in books, and journal
articles in the areas of juvenile delinquency, juvenile justice, international policing,
crime prevention, corrections, and victims. His recent writing and research have
centered on juvenile delinquency, juvenile justice, collaborative policing, correc-
tional counseling, financial crimes, corruption and fraud, and victimization of the
elderly. His most recent books are Juvenile Delinquency: Theory, Research, and the
Juvenile Justice Process, co-authored with Lucille Dunn Kratcoski and Peter
Christopher Kratcoski, 2020, published by Springer, and Experiential Education
and Training for Employment in Justice Occupations, co-authored with Peter
Christopher Kratcoski, 2021, published by Springer.
