The fitness industry is constantly evolving, with
instructors continually designing new exercise
programmes and classes in order to attract cli-
ents. A recent world-wide survey by the Ameri-
can College of Sports Medicine (Thompson
2012) predicted that strength and bodyweight
training will be among the most popular fitness
trends in 2013. Since Pilates did not make it into
the top 20, this will be of some concern to the
