How to make the indigo dye vat
1and basic dyeing techniques
The color of liquid
indigo dye is
yellow-green
This is the “living” color of the indigo dye vat.
The fabric soaks up this yellow-green liquid, and
as water or air interacts with the dye, the color
magically transforms to blue.
The dark indigo dye is deeply absorbed into the
fabric and doesn’t wash out.
Depending on the lighting during photography and printing
6 conditions, the colors shown may slightly vary from the actual color.

In the distant past when the science of dyeing was yet unknown,
the Japanese people considered indigo a living spirit meant to
protect humans. They marveled at the transformative powers of
the plant leaves and the indigo dyeing process—called aizome
or aizen—has been revered not only for the beautiful and robust
color that deepens with every dip, but also for the bug and snake
repellent properties it gives the fabric. Indigo dyeing has been a
treasured craft passed on through generations.
