Negotiating Otherness in Contemporary Sweden
Corina Lacatus
The Centre for Research in International Migration and Ethnic Rela­
tions, CEIFO, is an interdisciplinary research unit established in 1983 at
the Faculty of Social Sciences, Stockholm University. Its research pro­
gramme covers problems related to international migration, ethnic rela­
tions and multicultural societies. Specific research projects focus on
economic and forced migration and international responses to mass-
flight situations. Other projects are concerned with nationalism, racism,
discrimination and integration policies. In recent years the focus of work
has partly shifted to questions of transnationalism, diasporas and cul­
tural identities as well as to studies, not on but, with indigenous minority
groups about how the Swedish nation state makes its presence known to
them.
