Preface
The 12th International Conference on Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and
OperationsResearch(OR)techniquesinConstraintProgramming(CPAIOR2015)was
heldduringMay18–22,2015inBarcelona,Spain.Thepurposeoftheconferencese-
riesistobringtogetherresearchersinthefieldsofConstraintProgramming,Artificial
Intelligence,andOperationsResearchtoexplorewaysofsolvinghardandlarge-scale
combinatorialoptimizationproblemsthatemergeinvariousindustrialdomains.Pooling
theskillsandstrengthsofthisdiversegroupofresearchershasprovedextremelyeffec-
tiveandvaluableduringthepastdecadeleadingtoimprovementsandcross-fertilization
betweenthethreefieldsaswellasbreakthroughforactualapplications.
Thisyear,thecallforpaperswasopenedtobothlong(15pages)andshort(8pages)
papers. A dedicated ProgramCommittee of 29 membersreviewedboth types of sub-
missions with the same stringent criteria. The conferencereceived 90 submissions in
totalandthefieldnarroweddownto80paperscontendingforpublication.Intheend,
we accepted35 papersfor presentationand publication.This year,CPAIOR also fea-
tureda JournalFastTrackdedicatedtothe publicationofselectedpaperswith alevel
ofmaturityanddetailsthatwarrantstheirimmediatearchivalpublication.Fivepapers
amongthe35wereidentifiedforthisprocessandarepublishedinaspecialissueofthe
Journal.
Inadditiontothepapers,theconferenceattendeesenjoyedthreeinvitedtalks.The
speakerswereNikolaosSahinidis,whoistheJohnE.SwearingenProfessorofChemi-
calEngineeringat CarnegieMellonUniversity, RobertNieuwenhuiswhoisaProfes-
sorintheComputerScienceDepartmentattheTechnicalUniversityofCatalonia,and
Jeffrey T. Linderoth who is a Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems
EngineeringattheUniversityofWisconsin-Madison.
The traditional CPAIOR Master Class was delivered on the afternoon of May 18
andtheentiredayonthe19th.PascalVanHentenryck,whoholdstheVice-Chancellor
ChairinData-IntensiveComputingattheAustralianNationalUniversityandleadsthe
NICTA Optimization Research Group organized the event whose theme was “Con-
straintProgrammingandVerification.”Theeventfeaturednolessthanninespeakersall
focusedonverification. ThemorningofMay18wasdevotedtothreeworkshopstitled
“CPAIOR Meets CAV” organizedby Justin Pearson and Michel Rueher, ISA: “Inno-
vativeSchedulingandSchedulingApplicationsusingCPAIOR” organizedbyPierre’s
Schausand“SmartCities”organizedbyMicheleLombardi.
Iwishtoextendmydeepestgratitudetoalltheorganizers.CarlosAnsoteguifrom
UniversitatdeLleidacarriedthetorchasConferenceChairandwassupportedbyateam
consistingofMariaBonet(UPC),JordiLevy(IIIA-CSIC),andMateuVillaret(UDG).
DavidBergman(UConn)wasatthehelmofthepublicityeffortandcannotbethanked
enough.Pascal’senthusiasmdeliveredastellarcastforthisyear’sMasterClassandI’m
truly thankfulfor his energyand involvement.Finally, I wish to extend my thanks to

the entireProgramCommitteefortheir effortsandparticipationthroughoutthe entire
processdespitethetightschedule.
Naturally,IwouldberemissifIdidnotexpressmygratitudetothesponsorsofthe
