Mostpeoplewouldagreethatthemanagementofinnovationinareassuchasagile
projects and other work environments is of topical interest to many businesses. It
appears that innovation strategy isdelivered through theappropriate application of
projectandmanagementandothermanagementapproaches.Buthowdoweknow
how successful any innovation has been? What has been missing is a sound
approach to manage the efficiency and effectiveness of measuring how successful
innovationsorchangesin(agile)projectsandotherworkenvironmentshavebeen.
In the past, practitioners made good use of available measurement models such as
thebalancedscorecard(Kaplan&Norton,1996).

Thepurposeofthisguideistoallowustosharewithyoumanyideas,methods,and
techniquesthat—irrespectiveoftheindustryyouoperatewithin,oryourgeographi-
calworklocation—willenableyoutoputthesetopractice,havingfirstbeenmade
familiarwiththeassociatedtheoriesthatunderpinourpractical solutions.Constant
learning and practice in this relatively new area of performance management is
essentialforthosewhowishtowidenandimprovetheir‘measuringsuccess’skills.
Wearecertainthatyouwillbecomemoresuccessfulinyourfutureendeavours.
Aneffectiveinnovationperformancemeasurementsystemormethodologymust
be specifically designed for work activities that relate to the measurement of how
successfulaninnovationhasbeen.Suchasystemneedstoincludeappropriateand
user-friendly metrics thatallowforthemeasurementofinnovationwithinprojects/
initiatives irrespective of the kind and type of work that is being managed. When
appliedappropriatelyandinaccordancewithexistingcompanystrategy,marketing
drives, and HR/corporate policies, processes, and procedures, innovation metrics

within these guidelines? Our guide aims to close the identified gap in the current

howtoachievethis.Thesuggestedinnovationscorecardmethodologyactsasa‘one-
stop shop’ and provides project and business managers with the tools, techniques,

of success of any innovation or change. As we present the many ideas (Part I—
Theory),wewillsharevariousmethodsandtechniquesthatwillhelpyoutoputour
thoughts to practice (Part II—Practice) to achieve maximum benefit. There will be
copious examples of how our ideas can be applied in real-life practical work

realliveongoingprojectintheCzechRepublic(threesub-projects)inagilesoftware

Purpose and Scope of This Handbook
This handbook combines the accumulated experience of its authors with the best
practicetoolsandtechniquesusedincompaniesthatalreadymeasurethesuccessof
innovation within their projects and other work environments. It provides a set of
guidelines and procedures as a practical guide ‘how to measure the success of
innovation and change’ in organisations. It is not a thesis on innovation manage-
ment: there are many excellent training courses and books that can provide more
detailed information on specific aspects of innovation management. Instead, it
describes the general principles of how to measure the success of innovation or
change, and then provides details of those procedures and processes that comprise
the innovation scorecard methodology. This book will not present detailed
discussionsonhowtointroduceinnovationwithinorganisations—therearealready
lotsofgoodpublicationsavailablethatcoverthistopicindetail.Anyreferencesto
the concept of innovation (particularly Sect. 4.4) are purely intended to be supple-
mentarytostrengthenthepresentationoftheconceptofourinnovationscorecard.

authorshaveassumedthatreadersofthisbookhaveaworkingunderstandingofthe
associated concepts of change and project management. The intention is not to
produce a prescriptive set of instructions that must be followed to the latter but
ratherasetofguidelines,whichiffollowedintelligently,willincreasethechancesof
