strategyisimperative,andthenovelinternetofthings(IoT)-basedtechnologiescanbeofsignificant
helpindevelopingit.ThischapterpresentsthearchitectureofanIoT-basedwater-monitoringsystem
followedbythedemonstrationofacasestudyofabeveragefactorywhereinthemonitoringsystem
helpedunderstandthedetailedwaterusageaswellasfindingsolutionsandaddressingoverconsumption
ofwaterduringthemanufacturingprocesses.ThesuccessfuldeploymentofIoThelpedreducetheannual
waterconsumptionby6.7%,monitorwaterusageinreal-time,andimproveit.

system.Anetworkintrusiondetectionsystemiscreatedtomonitortrafficinthenetworkandtowarn
regardingthebreachinsecuritybyinvadingforeignentitiesinthenetwork.Specificexperimentshave
beenperformedontheNSL-KDDdatasetinsteadoftheKDDdatasetbecauseitdoesnothaveredundant
datasotheoutputproducedfromclassifierswillnotbebiased.Themaintypesofattacksaredivided
intofourcategories:denialofservice(DoS),probeattack,usertorootattack(U2R),remotetolocal
attack(R2L).Overall,thischapterproposesanintensestudyonlinearandensemblemodelssuchas
logisticregression,stochasticgradientdescent(SGD),naïvebayes,lightGBM(LGBM),andXGBoost.
Lastly,astackedmodelisdevelopedthatistrainedontheabove-mentionedclassifiers,anditisapplied
todetectintrusioninnetworks.Fromtheplethoraofapproachestakenintoconsideration,theauthors
havefoundmaximumaccuracy(98.6%)fromstackedmodelandXGBoost.
