About the Authors
Kristina Andersson is Associate Professor in Science Education at Uppsala
University, Sweden. Her main research interest is gender and feminist perspectives
on science and science education. She has been a guest researcher at the Centre for
Gender Research at Uppsala University since 2008. From autumn 2013, she has
been the chair of the board for preschool teacher education at Uppsala University.
Jenny Björklund holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and is associate professor
of Gender Studies at Uppsala University. Her research interests include literature
and cultural studies, queer theory, and body/embodiment theory. She has published
a book on women poets and Swedish modernism, and she is coeditor of a volume of
essays on Agnes von Krusenstjerna. Björklund’s work on lesbianism in Scandinavian
literature and fi lm and on women writers in Scandinavian modernism has appeared
in Swedish and international publications. Her latest book is L esbianism in Swedish
Literature: An Ambiguous Affair (Palgrave Macmillan 2014). Björklund is also
coeditor of lambda nordica, a Nordic journal for LGBTQ studies.
Maja Bondestam is senior lecturer in History of Science at Uppsala University.
Her research deals with the body in relation to sexuality and gender in natural history
and medicine from the late seventeenth to the early twentieth century. Bondestam
analyzed in her dissertation medical advice literature on marriage, sex, and health
from the nineteenth century, and her chapter in this volume is taken from a book
about hermaphrodites in Swedish history, published in 2010. In an ongoing project,
Bondestam studies concepts of age, maturity, and growing in relation to a new
understanding of time and human history in the late eighteenth century.
Jacob Bull is a social and cultural geographer, based at the Centre for Gender
Research, Uppsala University, Sweden. He is currently coordinator of the Humanimal
Research Group and has previously conducted research on cultures and practices of
recreational fi shing and worked on the EU Welfare Quality Programme into Farm
