Platone aveva scacciato gli attori dalla sua repubblica ideale, per evitare la molteplicità che incarnavano e la distrazione che causavano, impedendo ai cittadini di concentrarsi unicamente sul loro ruolo sociale. Con un'inversione di centottanta gradi, l'autore propone in questo saggio una repubblica degli attori, in cui la molteplicità sia la regola e la distrazione uno strumento prezioso.</p>
