"La barchetta di cristallo": un prezioso gingillo è l'unico collegamento tra le due dimore e i due stili di vita su cui sembra sospesa la strana morte del vecchio marchese: De Vincenzi si attacca ad esso, troverà un altro cadavere e un lontano inizio. "Giobbe Tuama & C.": nel pieno della Fiera del libro di Milano, con la sua atmosfera laccata e mondana, spunta un cadavere scomposto "come un fantoccio mostruoso": Giobbe Tuama, alias Jeremiah Shanahan e chissà chi altri ancora, venditore di bibbie, usuraio. Ma chi era veramente? La sua morte si trascina dietro altre vittime. De Vincenzi si impegola in una strana setta e in moventi sepolti nel tempo.</p>
