Thereareeightchaptersinall,thefirstthreeofwhicharefocusedonapplicationsin-
volvinginfraredandRamanspectroscopy.Initially,Dr.YangSongfromWesternUni-
versity in Ontario, Canada, describes some of his research on pressure-mediated
hydrogen bonding, pressure-inducedphotochemical reactions, and porous materials
andguest–hostinteractions.Then,Dr.IanButler,atMcGillUniversityinQuebec,Can-
ada,describeshisdiamond-anvilvibrationalresearchonsolidmaterials,especiallyor-
ganometallic complexes. Next, Dr.Janice Musfeldt atthe Universityof Tennessee in
theUSApresentssomeofherresearchonmolecule-basedmultiferroics.Thischapter
isfollowed by onefromDr.Alexander Goncharovatthe CarnegieInstitution for Sci-
ence inWashington, DC,USA, on recentexperimentaland theoretical investigations
ofsimplemoleculesatveryhighpressuresapproachingandreachingmoleculardisso-

chapter,Dr.ChristianReberattheUniversityofMontrealinQuebec,Canada,introdu-

wasthatthefieldissteadilygrowing.Abriefsurvey,usingSciFinder,forthetwocon-

thatthereare over 19,000 and 1,100 citations, respectively.Wetrust thatthe reader
will enjoy our collection of different high-pressure studies and consequently will be
stimulatedtoundertakefurtherresearchinthisfascinatingarea.
