Dear Friends,
Welcome to our 8th Annual Heart River Ranch/Open A Angus production sale. We certainly welcome your
interest in this year’s offering of bulls. 2013 can only be described as extreme …. extreme precipitation for
some, extreme drought for others, extreme winter blizzard in extremely early October, then extreme cold
fronts and wind chills here of late. In general, extreme seems to be the buzz word. Google extreme and
it will bring up everything from extreme bull riding to extreme beer fest, extreme weight loss to extreme
chocolates. I don’t know about you but extreme is a word I would rather avoid as I mature (i e. get older),
in fact, I would rather not encounter anything extreme during calving season or haying season and on the
home front to hear the word extreme from our two college girls makes me shutter.
Our hope is that you won’t fi nd any extremes in the bulls offered, in fact our goal is to provide sustainable
genetics by providing balanced seed stock grown and developed in as natural an environment as possible;
no creep, no silage and no guess work. Our cows and bulls run in large pastures on nature’s grass and
water. Consequently, we have tried to keep what you see on sale day as much as possible what you get
down the road to eliminate meltdown of bulls in the breeding pastures, promoting longevity and pregnancy
rates. 50K testing also gives you more accuracy in the animals’ genetic value, as much as the equivalent
to the accuracy you can expect after producing a dozen calves in some cases. We also strive to include
as much performance and epd information coupled with carcass ultrasound, fertility testing, and strict
selection on the cow side to “take the guess work” out of the bull selection process.
We will have a video of the bulls and carcass ultrasound information available near sale day. Bulls will be on
display at the development lot 4 miles south of Belfi eld, ½ mile west of the intersection of highway 85 and
40th St SW. You are welcome to come out and inspect them at any time.
We invite you to join us on Tuesday evening for a prime rib supper and to get the most recent information
on 50K testing by Mr. Larry Gran with Zoetis Animal Health. Mr. Mark Voll will also be available to answer
questions you have about animal health products. We look forwarding to having you as our guest in historic
Medora on March 11 and 12, 2014.

value sells on all bulls. If a buyer chooses to collect and market semen, the seller will share
proportionately in the collection costs and the revenues earned. In the event that the seller
chooses to collect semen for “in herd” use, it will be done at the seller’s expense and at
buyer convenience. Semen will be made available to buyer at cost.
Insurance
Ownership risk to purchaser commences when the auctioneer’s hammer falls. Insurance
will be available sale day. It is recommended that buyers insure their purchases for safe
delivery. Purchaser assumes the risk of death or injury to their livestock immediately
after the sale.
Volume Discounts
We are pleased to give a volume buyer discount. You will receive 5% off of purchases
of 5 to 9 bulls, and 10% off of 10 or more bulls. Please notify the clerk when you check
out to receive your discount. This is another way to say “Thank You” for your trust in

Avery was born premature at 32 weeks, 5 days on January 29, 2014, the daughter
of Annette’s brother, Mike and wife Diana Obrigewitch. Avery was a beautiful baby
girl with a strong will and a very special heart. She was a blessing from God and
graced everyone that was around her. Due to an untreatable condition, Avery went
home to be with Jesus and into the loving arms of Grandma Cecilia Obrigewitch
on February 1, 2014.

We sampled Boaz a couple years ago and came to use him again after we saw his daughter’s production capacity. Boaz is an udder improver with the ability of his daughters to wean
