Why Human Factors
are Important
 Human Factors are major or causal contributors in
over 80% of mishaps
 Humans are:
 Most pervasive element at all safety levels
 Difficult to predict when part of a complex system
 Difficult to replace when damaged
 Flexible and adaptable (they can change – even
the old ones)
