Your plan will not hinder fire but help it. Along with it, floods will not be hindered, mud slides will be helped,
children will be exposed to carcinogens, and you will be killing a multitude of wildlife.  What a short­sighted,
stupid plan you you have.  All because of non­native species? Terrible.  How very racist of you.  You will reap
the disastrous rewards.

Dear Sirs,
Your plan of cutting down and thinning of trees is both shortsighted and potentially dangerous. Shortsighted
because you are denuding the hills of moisture loving trees, yes they are probably not native, but then probably
most of your planning council aren't either. Dangerous because you are not only killing a multitude of animals
and birds, but you are potentially poisoning thousands of men, women and children with carcnogenic herbicides
for decades!
For shame on you and your planning committee upon embarking on such a ill­advised policy

1.     The 2020 LRDP is a programmatic document that requires tiered EIRs for specific
projects
2.     The addendum is a completely inadequate substitute for an EIR
3.     The other 2 agencies involved in this have either completed or are developing EIRs…
        and their projects are far less damaging than UCs
4.     That in attempting to avoid an EIR UC is attempting to prevent the public from
having a 
        real voice in this matter.
5.     That only through an EIR will there be a full assessment of the impacts of what’s
being
        proposed.
6.     That only through an EIR will there be consideration of alternative approaches.

dear UC planners,
I am very distressed by your intention to "return" the hills to a treeless state because your reasoning:
­ ignores the U.S. Forest Service analysis which recommends against removing trees;
­ has no basis in fire science;
­ violates fundamental principles of Wildland Fire Prevention;
­ is ideologically motivated; and,
­ creates the conditions for a perfect firestorm.
 ­ and seems to be motivated by the millions in funding somehow available for this travesty. 
Moreover, it is predicated on the use of carcinogenic herbicides, will contribute to climate change, and will cause
increasing pollution and erosion, further putting the public at risk. 
 Ou  r forests are home to multitudes of animals who will be injured, displaced and poisoned by this plan. It's their world,
too.
kindly please reconsider!

We, the board of the North Hills Community Association are writing
to express our support for proposed work outlined in the recently
published Addendum to the UC Berkeley 2020 Long Range
Development Plan Environmental Impact Report.

The NHCA is a community based organization advocating safety,
security, environmental health and a sense of community on behalf of
the North Oakland Hills. 

We are keenly eager to see work proposed in Claremont Canyon
related to the recent FEMA grant completed.

Dear UCB,
I am writing to ask you to drop altogether the attempt to cut down thousands of trees in the Berkeley/Oakland
hills.  The plan as it has been described in the newspapers is clearly a bad idea.
Firstly cutting down the trees chopping them into bits which are left lying on the ground will actually increase fire
hazard.  Oregon has learned that heaps of duff are a major contributor to fires.  The same will hold true in
California with man­made duff. 
Secondly spraying poison around will do a lot of damage to our watershed.  This will be bad for other plants and
for animals which rely on our creeks for their water. 
These are just two of the things which would be seen by a properly done environmental impact report.
It is reprehensible that the University is trying to avoid doing an environmental impact report for a proposal which
goes far beyond the Long Range Development Plan.  As a UCB alumna, I am entirely ashamed that UCB is
trying to conceal facts. We the public are entitled to see a rigorous Environmental Impact Report based on a
complete examination of the impact of the actions you propose.

U.C. needs to do an EIR before it proceeds with a plan that would be both an aesthetic and environmental
disaster for our hills.  Only with an EIR will there be a full assessment of all the damage that could be wrought. 
Moreover, the public deserves to have a voice in such an important matter.  U.C. must do an EIR and must
consider alternatives to this destructive plan.

To whom  may have an open ear, 
I am an Ayurvedic practitioner and business owner here in the east bay. I am writing you based on my education
of 13 years on holistic natural medicine based on digestion.
I educate the public about how to remove toxicity caused by food and the environment.
I know it is not very common for us to learn in school how microbes, good bugs that strengthen our immune
system are essential.  Or how synthetic chemicals affect us. 
Being in toxic environments, eating toxic food, and applying chemicals to our skin; destroys our immunity and
causes disease.
Many people become very sick due to a lack of microbe biodiversity that is killed by synthetic chemicals and
pesticides.
When we spray chemicals on the earth it destroys the soil and the life that is there. It may just look like dirt. But
if you have understanding, the bugs in the soil, the animals and humans become sick from the toxins and
sterility. 
You may have never seen the pictures of the children of the farm workers in the valley of California. Huge
tumors upon there face, and body. Dying from pesticide spraying that landed on skin, on the dirt, blown in the air,
and seeped into the water system.
Every action has a consequence. I urge you to reevaluate a plan that is already being implemented. Our bodies
thrive on being healthy, and healthy meaning without toxic substance contributing to disease and shortening our
lives.
I hope that those who are reading this, understand that you have the ability to affect all of our lives here in the
east bay. Our health, our happiness and our longevity. Take into account that you are not only harming nature
and our immune systems.
But you are harming, YOURSELF. 
Your family. 
Your children's health. 
It saddens me to be scared to go hiking, walk my families dog or take my nephew to hills. I benefit greatly from
these hills as so many of us do. WE NEED NATURE!!! It is our reflection of ourselves. It is a learning
opportunity for children as well as adults when we get to observe and realize we are nature. And we are not what
the media and the television reflects at us. Nature RESTORES MENTAL WELLBEING. Nature is HEALTHY. 
I urge you to please learn more from those who have the education and understanding of BIODIVERSITY AND
PERMACULTURE. 
We have an opportunity to be an example of a conscious place to live, not run by politics or greed, but instead
sustainable living and education.
 If you need to learn more about alternative HEALTHY PERMACULTURE plans, or health education. I would be
happy to make it my mission to connect you with those resources and information. We have many resources in
our area that could be of huge value.
If this is about money and you are turned off to the idea of being apart of a healthy community and future. I urge
you to look deeper. I'm sure the depth is there. Look at your children and remember how you want the best for
them. And remember what you decide will affect us ALL. 
I am highly against the use of chemicals on the regional hills disturbing our ecosystem.  And I know we have
much better alternatives.
