About This Guide
This guide describes how to use the Riverbed Granite Core Appliance Management Console to configure
product features, view reports, and modify host and network settings.
This guide includes information relevant to the following products:
 Riverbed Granite Core appliance (Granite Core)
 Riverbed Granite Core Virtual Edition (Granite Core-VE)
 Riverbed Granite Edge appliance (Granite Edge)

Audience
This guide is written for storage and network administrators familiar with administering and managing
storage arrays, snapshots, backups, and VMs, and Fibre Channel and iSCSI.

Hardware and Software Dependencies
The following table summarizes the hardware and software requirements for Granite Core.
Riverbed Component Hardware and Software Requirements
Granite Core appliance 19-inch (483-mm) two- or four-post rack.
Granite Core Management Console Any computer that supports a Web browser with a color image
display.
The Granite Core Management Console has been tested with
Mozilla Firefox Extended Support Release v10.0 and Microsoft
Internet Explorer v7.0 and v8.0.
Internet Explorer v7.0 and v8.0 must refresh reports every four
minutes due to performance issues. Consider using a different
browser to view reports.
JavaScript and cookies must be enabled in your Web browser.
Ethernet Network Compatibility
Granite Core supports the following Ethernet networking standards:
 Ethernet Logical Link Control (LLC) (IEEE 802.2 - 1998)
 Fast Ethernet 10BASE-TX (IEEE 802.3 - 2008)
 Gigabit Ethernet over Copper 1000BASE-T and Fiber 1000BASE-SX (LC connector) and Fiber
1000BASE LX (IEEE 802.3 - 2008)
 10 Gigabit Ethernet over Fiber 10GBASE-LR Single Mode and 10GBASE-SR Multimode (IEEE 802.3 -
2008)
Granite Core ports support the following connection types and speeds:
 Primary - 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T, auto-negotiating
 Auxiliary - 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T, auto-negotiating
 ETH0_0 to ETH0_3 - 10/100/1000 Base-TX or 1000 Base-SX or 1000 Base-LX, depending on
configuration
Granite Core supports VLAN tagging (IEEE 802.1Q - 2005). It does not support the ISL protocol.
All copper interfaces are autosensing for speed and duplex (IEEE 802.3 - 2005).
Granite Core automatically negotiates speed and duplex mode for all data rates and supports full duplex
mode and flow control (IEEE 802.3 – 2005).
Granite Core with a Gigabit or 10 Gigabit Ethernet card supports jumbo frames on in-path and primary
ports.
SNMP-Based Management Compatibility
Granite Core supports a proprietary Riverbed MIB accessible through SNMP. SNMPv1 (RFCs 1155, 1157,
1212, and 1215), SNMPv2c (RFCs 1901, 2578, 2579, 2580, 3416, 3417, and 3418), and SNMPv3 are supported,
although some MIB items might be accessible only through SNMPv3 and SNMPv2.

SNMP support allows Granite Core to be integrated into network management systems such as Hewlett
Packard OpenView Network Node Manager, BMC Patrol, and other SNMP-based network management
tools.
