PATCH STORY
As friends and neighbors we’d taken many
evening walks together chatting about our kids,
an upcoming auction or making plans for a road
trip to the next flea market. We both loved
country style and vintage finds, and it was
during one walk home in the fall of 1984 that
the idea for a mail-order company came about.

We loved the thought of working from home and being
with our families, and after several brainstorming sessions at the kitchen table, we created our very first
catalog! We filled our catalog to the brim with country favorites like quilts, handmade cookie cutters,
baskets, candles and wreaths, and soon we began receiving letters from customers who had become
like friends to us. It wasn’t long before they began sharing tried & true recipes, traditions, tips and ideas.
So, in 1992, we gathered together their handed-down recipes and heart-felt holiday memories, combined
them with whimsical illustrations and created a cookbook called Old-Fashioned Country Christmas.
Since then, we've created more than 50 community-style cookbooks.
Gooseberry Patch is also a lifestyle, where time spent with those we love means the most. And in
Get-Togethers with Gooseberry Patch, our very first full-color book, we’re excited to share fresh, fun,
easy ideas for bringing everyone together. Also inside are some of our very best recipes, each one tested,
that you’ll find yourself wanting to make again & again.
Life’s all about celebrating the little things...a picnic in the country, a trip to the farmers’ market, brisk
autumn days, the crunch of snow underfoot and sweet holiday homecomings. Each season has its own
special moments, and no matter where we find ourselves, sharing those moments always brings love
and laughter to our hearts.
