In Memoriam Dr. David Hall
We are very saddened by the sudden passing of
Dr. David Hall. He served as Professor of the Col-
legeofInformationSciencesandTechnology(IST)
at the Pennsylvania State University and founding
Director of the Center for Network Centric Cog-
nition and Information Fusion. In 2010 he was
appointed Dean of the College, a position he held
until 2014. Dr. Hall had over 30 years of expe-
rience in multisource information fusion, software
systemdevelopment,andresearchanddevelopment.
Hepublishednumerouspapersandseveralarchival
books on information fusion. He also contributed
his abundant energy as the Associate Director and
SeniorScientistforthePennStateAppliedResearchLaboratory,DirectorofIR&D
atHRBSystems,andResearchManagerattheComputerSciencesCorporation.Dr.
HallconsultedfortheUSAFTENCAPProgram,theJointIEDDefeatOrganization
(JIEDDO),theNationalSecurityAgency,NASA,andactedasaTechnicalAdvisor
to the Defense Department’s Joint Directors of Laboratories (JDL) Data Fusion
Group.HishonorsincludetheDoDJoeMignognaNationalDataFusionAwardand
beingnamedanIEEEFellowforhisimportantcontributionstoinformationfusion.
David’spassing is a tragic loss for the informationfusion community.His lasting
contributionsinthefieldofinformationfusionandrelateddisciplines,aswellashis
warmandgenerousspirit,willbefondlyrememberedbyallwhoknewhim.
