La connaissance de l'age du Bronze Atlantique s'est profondement accrue ces trente dernieres annees, mais l'etat de la recherche actuel n'est pas homogene d'une region a l'autre de l'Europe atlantique occidentale. Il persiste encore des zones pour lesquelles une caracterisation culturelle demeure difficile a etablir. Une dichotomie des connaissances entre le nord et le sud du domaine atlantique est particulierement perceptible. Ainsi au nord, la documentation archeologique permet de definir aujourd'hui des cultures bien connues, dotees d'une identite marquee, comme par exemple celle de la culture Manche Mer du Nord (MMN), des Tumulus Armoricains, ou encore celle du Wessex pour le sud de l'Angleterre. Cependant, vers le sud, et au-dela du grand Centre-Ouest de la France et de la culture des Duffaits, enumerer les identites culturelles en presence consiste en un exercice beaucoup plus complexe. Sur la frange atlantique, des regions, comme le nord de la peninsule Iberique ou l'extreme sud-ouest de la France, n'apparaissent encore que tres faiblement dans les travaux d'echelle europeenne. Notre objectif consiste donc - a travers ce volume de recueil de syntheses regionales dedie aux manifestations funeraires de la seconde moitie du IIe millenaire av. J.-C. de la Belgique au nord du Portugal, - a pallier ces lacunes documentaires et ainsi mieux comprendre les relations qui ont ete entretenues par ces regions atlantiques au cours de l'age du Bronze.
