About the Special Issue Editors
Sonja Mujcinovic holds a degree in English Philology and a second degree in Spanish
PhilologybothfromtheUniversityofValladolid. SheobtainedherMaster’sDegreeinAdvanced
English Studies from the joint program of the universities of Valladolid and Salamanca. She is
currentlyworkingonherdoctoraldissertationonsecondlanguageacquisitionfocusedonbilingual
morphosyntacticanalysisandcross-linguisticinfluence. Shealsoworksasapart-timeprofessorat
theUniversityofValladolid.
EduardoGo´mezGarzara´nisafulltimeEnglishandcontentsubjectsteacherandthecoordinator
of the English-Spanish bilingual section at Colegio Ave Mar´ıa in Valladolid (Spain). He is a PhD
student in the Valladolid-Salamanca interuniversity PhD Program in Advanced English Studies:
LanguagesandCulturesinContactattheUniversityofValladolid. Hisdoctoralresearchrevolves
aroundcross-linguisticinfluenceandwordorderwithinthedeterminerphrasedomaininstructures
presentingnominalmodificationbyadjectivesandbynouns.

Preface to “Formal and Methodological Approaches to
Applied Linguistics”
This Special Issue, entitled Formal and Methodological Approaches to Applied Linguistics,
bringstogetherrecentlypublishedpapersonvariousaspectsofappliedlinguisticspresentedatthe
AESLA37 (Spanish Society of Applied Linguistics) conference in Valladolid held on 27–29 March
2019. This issue aims to provide a better understanding of different aspects of language and to
sharenewinsightsintotheoreticalandpracticalaspectsinthefield. Itdoessobyaddressingthe
studyoflanguageinitsdifferentdimensionsandareasofapplicabilitythroughtheuseofmultiple
methodologiesandformalaccountsasusedbyresearchersinthefield.
ThisSpecialIssuecontainscontributionsfromthefollowingareasrelatedtoappliedlinguistics:
languageacquisitionandlanguagelearning; languageforspecificpurposes; languagepsychology,
child language and psycholinguistics; sociolinguistics; discourse analysis; corpus linguistics; and
lexicologyandlexicography.
We are certain that the papers published in this volume offer a clear insight into the topics
currently being dealt with, both from a theoretical and practical perspective, within the field of
applied linguistics. Together, they provide a good example of how research on language and
languagesincontactaredevelopingatpresent.
