AcademicCV Neville M. Blampied has been a member of the academic staff
of the Department of Psychology, University of Canterbury, since 1970, and
has been head of department since 2005. His areas of expertise are in social

His research has focused on the development and evaluation of innovative
behavioural family interventions, particularly in the domain of infant sleep
disturbance.Hisappliedresearchhasalsocoveredarangeofanxietydisorders,
eating disorders,andtopicsin Health Psychology.Recentresearchhasfocused
on adapting single-case research designs for the evaluation of group interven-
tions and the development of innovative graphic displays based on modified

focusing predominantly on long-term recovery issues and problems of social
vulnerability.Whilemuchofhisearlierworkexaminedmajornaturaldisasters,
especiallyearthquakesinCalifornia,hismorerecentworkhasshiftedtocritical
studiesofenvironmentaljusticeandtechnologicalhazardsincities.Ofparticular
interest to his environmentaljustice research is the use of historical geography
andpoliticalecologytounpackthewaysenvironmentalracismworkstoproduce
unequal environmental burdens in the urbanisation process. His recent work
alsoincludesstudiesofwaterresources,vulnerabilityandclimatechangeinthe
