Community Coffees are coming! Cross County
Spring Community Coffee for the Community of
Stromsburg will be Tuesday, April 24 at 7:30 am at the
4th Street Coffee House. Coffee is on me that
morning! We are bringing our top notch Cross County
Jazz Band to perform as well as our State Champion
5th grade DI team! We are hoping for a large crowd to
support the kids. After the Jazz Band performance and
DI performance, there will be a short discussion on the
latest happenings going on at school. Our Spring
Community Coffee for the Community of Benedict
will be Thursday, April 26 at 9:30 am at PK’s. Once
again, coffee is on me! The Cross County Jazz Band
and DI team will also be performing at PK’s that
morning. Looking forward to seeing you at the

Gerald “Jerry” W. Hinze, 92, of York, died March 24

at York. He was born April 23, 1925 to Victor &
Lenora (Dey) Hinze north of Thayer. Jerry served his
country as a member of the United States Army during
WWII. On October 12, 1949 he was united in

marriage to Ardith Brooke at York and together they

farmed near Thayer in York County. He had been on

the Thayer School Board and the FHA Board in York
for many years and thoroughly enjoyed his family and
all of their activities.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Ardie of York; son,

Dr. Randy (Deborah) Hinze of Columbus, son, Scott

(Brenda) Hinze of Waco, and daughter, Chere (Ken)

Epke of Papillion; seven grandchildren; and fourteen
great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Fay Loraine Hinze, 92, of York, died March 24 in
Edmond, Oklahoma surrounded by her family. She
was born February 27, 1926 in Fillmore County to Carl Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she also belonged
& Elsie (Alfs) Goesch. She was united in marriage to to the LWML. As a member of the LWML, she spent

Shane Lawrence Geis, 42, of Sutton, passed into the

Brenda Sue Brooke, 55, of Stromsburg, passed away
March 27 surrounded by her family. Brenda was born
to Robert (Bob) & Harriet (Donelson) Peterson on
May 22, 1962 in Osceola. She was baptized at Salem
Lutheran Church in Stromsburg and confirmed at
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola.
Brenda was very active in both Luther League and
4-H and graduated from Osceola High School in 1980.
She received her Associate's Degree in Lincoln in 1982
and began her thirty-five year career as a legal
grandchildren, Angela Echols and Brenda Roberts of

Marcella Mae McLain, 89, of Lubbock, Texas, passed
away peacefully March 31. She was born in York on
May 10, 1928 to Harold & Hilma (Smith) Norquest.
Marcella graduated from York High School in 1945.
She married Kenneth McLain on June 8, 1947 in
McCool Junction. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Together they owned and operated McLain Garden
Center in Hereford.
Those left to cherish Marcella’s memory are her two
sons, Richard McLain and wife, Lois of Albuquerque,
New Mexico and Milt McLain of Estancia, New
