Welcome to the Cooksley, Birnie and Sandbur Ridge 6th Annual production sale. This is our 6th sale
together and the 3rd as the Flat Water Red Angus Gang. We would like to extend our sincere thanks
and gratitude to our customers and those that have expressed interest in our sale and programs.
Over the years, we have developed many friendships and have enjoyed watching our genetics go
out and work for our customers. The relationships we’ve built and the success that our clientele
has experienced using our genetics are two of the most rewarding aspects of what we do. It is very
satisfying watching our friends top their respective markets each year when they sell their steers and
replacement quality females. Your success is important to us and we take our responsibility as a part
of that very seriously.
The genetics being offered in the sale and the bulls that are carrying them are very deep in quality.
Visitors throughout the summer and fall have been very complimentary in respect to the depth in the
bull pen. Excellent bulls can be found all the way through the sale order. The bulls and their genetic
capabilities are a representation of our philosophy, which is centered upon productive longevity.
That focus is on an all encompassing breeding program aimed at producing sound females that
express long-term production in order to generate sustainable profi ts. This encompasses everything
from structure, body type, udder conformation, disposition, calving ease, fl eshing ability, fertility and
carcass quality. Great cows make great bulls that in turn produce great cows. It is a never ending
cycle.

As part of that philosophy, we adhere to responsible bull development programs. Our bulls are never
offered creep feed and they are never pushed to achieve extraordinary gains. Slow and steady wins
the race. Our development program is simple. The focus is on creating long lasting durable breeders.
We grow them sturdy enough to get the job done and lean enough to want to.
Once again, the bulls will be sold live in the ring at the Valentine Livestock Auction and simultane-
ously on DV Auction. The bulls will be sold in catalog order. Videos of the bulls are available on our

Greetings and welcome to another great ride with the Flat Water Gang. Thank you to
all of our past customers for your continued support and trust in our program, and to
all of you that have expressed interest in what we have to offer. Our family is honored
to be a part of this group as they are close friends and family with a common goal of
producing problem-free genetics that are devoted to the fundamental elements that the
Red Angus breed is built upon. Those fundamentals focus on maternal and essential
elements such as calving ease, disposition, fertility, longevity and fl eshing ability. Cattle
with these traits are reproductively sound and proven to be the most profi table.
Our breeding decisions are consistently based on the end goal of creating great
females and productive cow families. It is that maternal principle that guides us. That
focus combined with adherence to structural correctness from the feet to the udder
and beyond has helped us build a cowherd that is adaptable and effi cient. Our cows
are not perfect and still have fl aws, but we are constantly trying to improve upon our
foundation.
