Viviane Baeke, Ph.D.
Viviane Baeke est docteur en anthropologie sociale de l’université libre de Bruxelles, où elle fut, de 1986 à 1990,
l’assistante des professeurs luc de heusch et Pierre de Maret. de 1990 à mai 2015, date de sa retraite, elle fut
conservatrice avec le titre de Chef de travaux au sein de la section d’Ethnographie, puis du service Patrimoine du
Musée royal de l’afrique centrale.
En 2004, elle publie sa thèse sous le titre le temps des Rites. ordre du monde et destin individuel en pays wuli
(Cameroun), Paris X, nanterre.
depuis plusieurs années, ses recherches portent sur le dialogue entre l’art et les systèmes symboliques et rituels en
afrique centrale.
Viviane Baeke received her doctorate in anthropology from the université Libre de Bruxelles (free university of
Brussels) where she was an assistant to Professors Luc de Heusch and Pierre de Maret from 1986 to 1990. from
1990 to May of 2015, when she retired, she held the title of Head of Research as a curator first in the ethnography
Department and then in the Patrimony Service of the Musée Royal de l’afrique Centrale at Tervuren.
In 2004, she published her thesis titled Le Temps des Rites. Ordre du monde et destin individuel en pays wuli
(Cameroun) (The Time of the Rites. The Order of the World and Individual Destiny in Wuli Country (Cameroon),
Paris X, nanterre.
for the last several years, her research has dealt with the dialogue between art and the symbolic systems and rituals
in Central africa.

Frédéric Cloth , informaticien de formation, tente d’appliquer ses connaissances à la compréhension des arts
premiers par le biais de méthodes statistiques, mathématiques et informatiques. il a conçu les outils de la yale
university african art archive, et est le co-curateur d’une exposition consacrée aux Kota à la Pulitzer arts Foundation
de saint louis (usa).
frédéric Cloth, a trained computer scientist, attempts to apply his knowledge to furthering the understanding of tribal
art through statistical mathematical and computational methods. He developed the tools used by the Yale university
african art archive, and was the co-curator of an exhibition devoted to the Kota at the Pulitzer arts foundation in Saint
Louis (uSa).
