Female Infidelity and Paternal Uncertainty
Althoughitiscommonlybelievedthatmalesaremorepromiscuousthan
females,newresearchhasrevealedthefrequencyoffemaleinfidelity
andtheconsequencesofsuchbehavior.Becausemalescannotbecertainof
thepaternityoftheirputativeoffspring,maleshaveevolvedanumberof
anti-cuckoldrystrategiestodealwiththepotentialpossibilityofraisingan
offspringtheyunknowinglydidnotsire.FemaleInfidelityandPaternalUncertainty:
EvolutionaryPerspectivesonMaleAnti-cuckoldryTacticsisthefirstbooktoaddress
theseperspectivesandlookathowmalesdealwiththeconsequencesoffemale
infidelity.Eachchapterdealswithaspecificevolvedstrategydevelopedtoaid
malesineitherlimitingopportunitiesfortheirmatetobeunfaithfulorto
‘correct’thebyproductsofinfidelityshoulditoccur.Withsectionsincluding
mateguarding,intravaginaltactics,andpaternityassessment,thisbookwill
appealtoresearchersandgraduatestudentsinbehavioralbiology,evolutionary
psychology,humansexuality,anthropology,sociology,reproductivehealth,
andmedicine.
