NOTE REGARDING IFAA RULES
The FCA is the Canadian organization officially affiliated with the International Field Archery Association. IFAA rules can be found online at;

NOTE THAT CHANGES SINCE THE PRINTING OF THE FCA 2008 RULEBOOK ARE IN RED.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR RULE CHANGES IN THE PRINTED 2008 RULEBOOK (SINCE APRIL 2006 EDITION)
Changes are underlined in the text of the rules.

General – All Disciplines
1. Back numbers are now referred to as “athlete numbers” and these are to be worn on the thigh, quiver or belt quiver – not the back.
2. Wheelchair athletes may stay on the shooting line throughout the match. They indicate that they have finished shooting by raising a hand
above the head.
3. Conditional divisions at Nationals are no longer used. Once a shooting division (3D class) has gone 3 years with registrations below a
threshold, they are discontinued but may be reinstated with a board motion. Outdoor Target rule 3.1.2, Indoor Regionals rule 3.2.3,
Outdoor 3D rule 3.3.8, Indoor 3D rule 3.4.9.
4. Masters 60 class is added for records only. Rule 5.3.6.
5. Age Classes for Cadet and Junior are amended consistent with FITA. Rules 4.2.3.3 and 4.3.3.4, and rule 11.13.

Outdoor Target
1. Fred Usher Cup first round seedings done by handicap. Rule 3.1.5.7.
Also scoring is done after each end using agents. Rule 3.1.5.9.
2. Dress Code Regulations change for Nationals. Rule 3.1.18.
3. Chaperones required at Nationals. Rule 3.1.19.
4. Layout for athlete and coaches boxes in OR Team Event. Rule 7.1.1.14.
5. Outdoor mult-faces - change in target set-up. Rule 7.2.2.2.
6. Practice. If the practice field is separate and independent, competition distances may be used; otherwise not. Rule 7.4.7.
At Nationals, field set-up and availability rules change. Rule 3.1.14.
No practice allowed for equipment failure. Rule 7.4.7.5.
7. Forfeits in CDE Round – Clarifies who wins in case of two forfeits. Rule 7.4.2.8.1.
8. Alternate shooting in match play. Change of sound signals and order for individuals and teams. Rules 7.5.6.2.2 and 7.5.6.2.3.
9. CDE Grid. New grid requiring one fewer rounds and altered so athletes can‟t meet as soon for a second time. (See FCA website.)
10. Red flags no longer used to call Judges for equipment failures etc.

Indoor Target
1. Dress Code Regulations change for Nationals. Rule 3.1.12.
2. Indoor Regionals multiple registrations allowed in different divisions but not in different age classes. Rule 3.2.13.2.
3. Signing scorecards. Athletes are now signing for everything – arrow values, totals, counts etc. Rule 8.6.4.
4. Alternate shooting in match play. Change of sound signals. Rule 8.5.5.2..
5. Alternating Team Shooting. Teams have to alternate between the team members after each shot. Rule 8.5.2.4
6. Scoring 3-spots. Rule 8.6.2.3 is restated for better clarity.
7. Team Target set-up. Teams use vertical 3-spot set up sideways. Rule 8.6.5.2.4
8. Red flags no longer used to call Judges for equipment failures etc.
9. Athletes on a butt with a bounce-out continue shooting until finished, unless there is more than one archer on a target (8.6.2.7.1)

Field
1. Scoring change. The inner “X‟ is now the six (6) ring. Rule 9.2.1.1. Ties are broken by counting 5s and 6‟s combined – then 6s.
2. Timing is reduced from 4 to 3 minutes for three arrows. Rule 9.5.1.12.
3. Multiple sight pins are not permitted in the Compound division in Field Archery. They are permitted in Compound Limited and
Bowhunter divisions. (FITA rule 9.3.5.3.2)
4. Scoring 20cm targets. Rule 9.6.2.2 and 9.6.2.3 are restated for better clarity.

3D
1. Grand Prix rules changed throughout. Rule 3.3.11.
2. Range Officials/Judges. All “official” duties in the rulebook at FCA events are delegated to Judges.
Each course must have a Judge – a Provincial level Judge at Nationals (Rule 3.3.3) and a Local level Judge at other registered events (Rule
11.20.1).
3. Arrow calls. The majority of the group makes the final call. Rule 11.4.10.
4. Targets with multiple scoring areas. Signage at the stake must specify which area counts. Rule 11.5.1.
5. Waiting area (Outdoor) is redefined. Rule 11.6.4.
6. Jury of Appeal. How appeals are handled and how a Jury is chosen are changed. Rules 3.3.8, Rule 3.4.8, and Rule 11.8.
7. Binoculars must be under 9x and have manufacturer‟s power rating on them. Rule 11.9.1.
8. Equipment Inspection is mandatory at all registered events. Rule 11.11.1.4.

10. Correction to allow any sight in youth Compound classes.

Changes Since 2008 Printing
1. “Disabled” replaced by “Paralympic” and “[Disabled] Compound Open” replaced by “Paralympic Compound”
2. Clarifications in; 7.4.2.4, 8.4.2.4, 7.6.5.2.3, 8.6.5.2.2
3. Clarification re sight in BHO (3D).
4. Correction allowing any sight for JRC (3D)
5. Nov. 21, 2008 – Numbering corrected in 3.2.3
6. Dec. 3, 2008 - Note added to 7.3.1.10.1 that string dampeners are not allowed in Recurve.
7. Provision is made for 3 single 80cm centres to be placed horizontally (as well as in a triangle). See 7.2.2.3.
8. Tolerances are added for distance from the ground (+/- 2cm) for Indoor targets
9. Change of scores for Arrowhead Field badges (6.3.5)
10. Handicaps for the Fred Usher Cup have changed. Rule 3.1.5.2
11. 3D Class RU is changed to match FITA Barebow. Rule 11.19.
12. Instinctive (IN) class added to match FITA Instinctive class Rule 11.19.
13. Restriction on vanes removed for 3D HUN class. Rule 11.19.
14. A rule has been added (11.21.3) which sets out consequences of breaking the 3D rules.
15. Equipment failures in 3D may not delay the event more than 30 minutes outdoors or 15 minutes indoors. Rule 11.12.5.
16. Rule 11.1.2 is modified to specify how to deal with scorecard discrepancies and errors in 3D.
17. Rule 11.6.2 is changed to require rotating shooting order in 3D from stake to stake.
18. Age Classes for Cadet and Junior are amended consistent with FITA. Rules 4.2.3.3 and 4.3.3.4, and rule 11.13.
