Welcome friends and fellow cattlemen,
2012 has been quite a year, with drought covering
a large portion of the country, record calf and cull
prices were a real blessing to offset higher feed
prices. Many of our customers are receiving a very
good premium for replacement quality heifer calves. Craig and Taryn DeBoer, Traig, Cayl and Trac
This is a powerful set of bulls from Lot 1 to Lot 122.
We used several of our own sires that sold through past sales. Their progeny performed with the well-
proven, breed-leading sires that we continue to use. A large percentage of the bulls are calving ease.
These heifers for sale are stacked with generations of balanced trait selections, just like the bulls. Every
heifer in the sale should make a really sound, productive female.
We put a lot of selection pressure on feet, legs and udder structure. We cull ruthlessly for these traits as well
as disposition and mothering ability.
Our families (one big family really) have been very blessed to be in the cattle business for many years and,
the Lord willing, many more to come. We are blessed to have our family nearby. We enjoy all the basketball
games, baseball games, softball games, fl ag football games, wrestling meets and 4-H activities that our
grandkids keep us all involved in. Along with that we also stay busy with church activities.
The kids and grandkids keep growing and getting older, but Carol and I just don’t seem to get any older (ha
ha). Just to let you in on a little secret, Craig just turned 40 and our “dear, young” Taryn is right there behind
him.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE AS AN ABSENTEE BUYER

We have made preparations to bid and buy your Red Angus Cattle through Superior Produc-
tions’ “Call or Click-To-Bid” service for those unable to attend in person on sale day. Please
note that all of the lots in the sale will also be available for viewing online prior to sale day at
www.superiorlivestock.com.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
Turn in Bids Over the Phone. This is our traditional method of buying livestock. To get started simply go online to www.superiorlivestock.com and click on the tab titled
“Register for a Buyer Number”. Select the registration form for Superior Productions and print the registration form, fi ll it out and fax it in to Superior Productions at (817)
378-3380 with a signature on it. You can also mail it in to the address provided on the form. Upon receipt of this information Superior will call you with a buyer’s number
and the bid line phone number that you will use on sale day to place bids over the phone.
Click-To-Bid. This is Superior’s newest way to buy cattle! Please note that high speed internet is required – this is not for dial-up or satellite internet. Registration is free, but
you must become a member of www.superiorclicktobid.com to sign up. Becoming a member is easy – just go to the homepage of www.superiorclicktobid.com and follow
the out-lined steps to get started. Input your information and select a username and password. You will receive an e-mail confi rming you are a member. From that point
forward you just have to sign in and select the sale you would like to register for and once approved you will receive an e-mail confi rming which sale you are now registered
for.
Viewing the Auction. The sale will be broadcast live on the internet at www.superiorclicktobid.com – just go to the home page and select the auction. Remember, you can
call in to bid over the phone when watching on the internet if you have registered for that service, but you must be a member of www.superiorclicktobid.com to “click-to-
bid” and bid online. Your computer must have Flash Media Player installed to view the auction.
Bidders who are successful in making purchases will be contacted by Superior Productions after the sale to settle payment and discover your shipping plans.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. The terms of the sale are cash unless prior arrangements have been made.
2. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer will settle any disputes and his decision on such matters shall be
fi nal.
3. Any announcement from the block on sale day will take precedence over printed material.
4. Health certifi cates will be furnished for shipment anywhere in the United States.
5. Each animal becomes the buyer’s risk as soon as sold. Cattle will be cared for, for a reasonable length of time at the ranch, at
the buyer’s risk.
6. Retained Interest: All bulls will sell half interest and full possession. The buyer receive full possession and full salvage value.
The seller has the right to collect semen at the buyer’s convenience, and the seller’s cost. If the buyer wishes to share in the
collection costs and revenues, that is his/her choice.
7. Registered heifers selling for more than $1,200 will sell with papers. Less than $1,200 will be sold as commercial.
8. In case an adjustment is required on an animal, it will be made with a replacement animal of equal value to the animal in ques-
tion, or credit on the purchase of another animal.
9. Everyone attending the sale does so at their own risk. Owners, clerks or other helpers do not assume responsibility, legal or
otherwise, for damages of any kind.
10. Free delivery to central points in Montana. $50 will be deducted from each bull that the buyer takes home from the sale. We will
help with arrangements on females. Heifers are delivered at cost. We will attempt to deliver bulls in early April.
11. A certifi cate of registry and transfer will be furnished for each animal sold as a registered animal after settlement has been
made.
12. The above terms and conditions shall constitute a contract between buyer and seller of each animal.

Multi-breed EPD base simplifies selection
Since 2010, the Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) and the American Simmental Association (ASA)
have combined their growth and carcass datasets to provide commercial producers with the most reliable
EPDs in the beef industry. In the summer of 2012, RAAA and ASA adopted a common base for Growth (BW,
WW, YW, Milk) and Carcass (MARB, YG, CW, REA, FAT) EPDs so that all animals registered in either RAAA
or ASA can be directly compared – regardless of breed makeup.
What is BASE?
For decades, each breed association has presented EPDs in their own language (the base). Base is no more than a reference point for any trait
against which subsequent generations of animals are compared. The establishment of a base ensures that the population future generations are
compared to remains stable, which allows the breedʼs genetic trend to be accurately identified.
Raw Genetic Value + Base Adjustment = Published EPD
Study Percentile Ranks…
Percentile ranks are an easy reference and therefore a powerful tool to assist you in becoming accustomed to the new multi-breed base. Red
Angus EPD percentile ranks are presented along with all active animalsʼ EPDs, and reference how animals compare within their respective Red
Angus subpopulations, i.e. Sire Summary Sires, Active Dams, Non-Parent Bulls, etc. Itʼs important to realize that although the multi-breed base al-
lows for the direct comparison of Red Angus and Simmental EPDs, the percent ranks for Red Angus animals will continue to simply compare the
genetics of Red Angus animals against other Red Angus. Thus, an animal that was in the top 10% for growth under the old Red Angus base will still
be in the top 10% for growth in the new Red Angus multi-breed base.
Example:
In the past, you preferred to purchase bulls that had a -2.0 or lower BW EPD.
Since a -2.0 on the old RAAA base represented the top 20% for BW, you now need to use -2.7 as your critical selection threshold as that represents
the top 20% for BW on the new multi-breed base.

Feddes Big Sky R9 sold to Genex and a group of breeders in our 2006 sale. He is continuing to
make a mark on the breed mostly through his daughters. He shows up a Maternal Grand Sire on
many top end bulls and sire of many highly sought after females. Several astute breeders have

Feddes Oscar X28 was sold through our sale in 2011 to Camp 1A in St. Francis, KS. We sampled him a bit on
some heifers and will certainly be using him more. His sons have more depth and muscle shape than the Oscar
cattle we have seen. We don’t have very many calves, but everyone is a good one. They are consistent. His dam

is a Romeo 9136 daughter that is working her way toward the donor pen. Her mother is the dam of the Lot 4 bull
