In 1982, Volume 6 in the Detail & Scale Series became the first book ever published on the F/A-18 Hornet. At that time, this multi-role aircraft was just entering service with the U. S. Navy and Marines while important aspects of its evaluation and testing program still continued. That publication covered the design and develop ment of the aircraft and illustrated all of the prototype, FSD, and early production Hornets in considerable detail. Author Don Linn did a fine job of researching, photographing, and writing about the new aircraft. But even before Volume 6 was released, it was obvious that the Hornet would continue to evolve for many years to come. There would be changes to its airframe, upgrades in its capabili ties, and new variants would be developed. Accordingly, that first book on the Hornet was designated ''Part 1'' of our coverage of the F/A-18, and Detail & Scale promised to release a second part on the production variants.In this new volume is the most extensive and detailed look at all four production versions of the F/A-18 Hornet ever published. These include the F/A-1 8A, F/A-18B. F/A-18C, and F/A-18D. Dozens of photographs, most of which were taken specifically for this publication, illustrate every important feature of the aircraft's design.
