TheimmensepopularityoftheInternetand,particularly,the
World Wide Web(web,for short) has meant that more and
more businesses are makingan effort to use this medium to
publishand promotetheiractivitiesand products.Themove
from papertoanelectronicform forbusinessexposureisnot
alwaysstraightforward and, usually,some levelofcomputer
programming (which isoften seen asrestrictive) isrequired
to develop professionalweb sites.
Macromediav Dreamweaverv 4.0provides a comprehensive
visual environment that facilitates fast generation of web
pages and sites, with minimal programming know-how.
We can work with a number of tools, menu options, and
panels to quickly design, formulate and realize a site. The
development environment has a range of features to test,
check and debug a web page or a web site. We can, in
addition,choose to work with HTMLcodes or scripts (both
JavaScript and VBScript are supported). These can be used,
for example, to better control components forming a web
page.Moreover,we can choose just to work with the visual
form, or code only,or use bothvisual and code to develop a
desiredweb page or web site.
The goalofthis manuscriptisto provideafast insightto the
numerousfeatures and tools thatDreamweaver4.0offers.We
will look at tables, cells, layers and frames as a means of
realizing adesiredpage layout.The two keycomponents for
page content, namely text and pictures, have dedicated
chapters. Wewill learn how to add, edit and publish such
content. Links and hyperlinks are also covered and the way
these canberealizedthroughusingthe visual form isexplain
by virtue of examples. In addition, we will look at the
generationofforms and howstyle sheets can be createdand
employed to assist in adding conformity to a site. The
manuscript finally shows how to check, test and correct the
content of a page or site, together with discussion on
debugging code (especially,scripts).Wewill also learn how

the environment assists us to evaluate,manage and publish
our sites.Thediscussion throughoutthemanuscriptislevied
at providing a practical, visual and quick introduction to
Dreamweaver4.0.
