Dr. Alison Ashby is a Lecturer in Operations Management at
Plymouth Business School, UK where she researches and teaches sus-
tainability in the context of operations and supply chains. Her strong
interest in sustainability evolves from direct experience of working
within the UK textile industry and identifying mechanisms to address
both environmental and social issues across the global supply chain. She
has published in major operations, supply chain and sustainability jour-
nals and books, and her current research interests include closed loop
supply chains and the circular economy, renewable energy and resource
efficiency and reshoring for sustainability.
Dr. Zhibek Bimagambetova is an Associate Professor and the Director
of Centre of Excellence at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Her
research focuses on the social and psychological aspects of the new
energy infrastructure. Her recent research activities include a project on
impact of global climate change on land degradation in Kazakhstan (in
cooperation with the British Council) and a project on promoting clean
energy in resource-rich countries (in cooperation with the University of
Reading and Kazakh Economic Research Institute).

Dr. Marat Karatayev is a Newton Al-Farabi Energy Research
Fellow at the Energy Technology Research Institute, University of
Nottingham, UK. He is also a Research Associate with the Kazakh
Institute for Economic Research and UNESCO Department on
Sustainable Development at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
With Ph.D. in Urban, Energy and Environmental Planning, his
research interests include clean fuel and energy technologies, sustaina-
ble cities, water-food-energy nexus and sustainability indicators. He has
participated in a range of energy projects sponsored by the European
Commission, the British Council, and the Science Fund of Kazakhstan.
Inna Kostrytska is a Senior Associate, Advocate with Jeantet, an inde-
pendent law firm based in France and operating worldwide. She grad-
uated from Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, one of leading
law schools in Ukraine. She also earned a Master degree in Finance.
Inna specialises in energy law, M&A, and is in charge of the energy law
practice of Jeantet’s Kyiv office. Inna is an author of numerous a rticles
and actively participates in the development of Ukrainian law as a
member of working groups with the European Business Association,
the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, other business and
professional associations.
Dr. Anastasia Koulouri graduated from the University of Strathclyde,
UK with a Ph.D. in Management Science. Previously she has held posts
at the University of Strathclyde, the Technical University of Helsinki
and the Belgian Nuclear Energy Research Centre. Currently she is a
Lecturer at the Dundee Business School, Abertay University, UK. Her
research interests include energy security in resource-rich countries and
sustainable development of transitional economies.
Dr. Nikolai Mouraviev is a Senior Lecturer at the Dundee Business
School, Abertay University, Scotland, UK. Previously he has held
teaching positions at KIMEP University, Kazakhstan, Wayne State
University, US, and Viterbo University, US. A large part of his research
focuses on public–private collaboration in transitional nations and he
has published extensively in this area including a monograph (with
Palgrave Macmillan in 2017) and an edited volume (with Cambridge
Notes on Contributors xi
Scholars Publishing in 2017). In addition, his research embraces energy
policy and governance.
Dr. Galiya Movkebayeva is a Professor of International Relations and
Economics, and the Director of Centre for Eurasian Studies at Al-Farabi
Kazakh National University. Her research is focused on the energy
security and geopolitics, energy and democracy in former Soviet coun-
tries, climate and energy policies of the European Union. Her research
work has been supported by grants from the European Commission,
the German Science Foundation, Konrad Adenauer Foundation and
European Academy of Diplomacy. Currently she is a coordinator of
a project on energy security and energy policymaking framework in
the Eurasian Economic Union, funded by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of
Education and Science.
Mihaela Grubišić Šeba, Ph.D., CFA is a Research Associate and a sen-
ior consultant with the Institute of Economics, Zagreb, Croatia with 15
years of experience in research/consulting and in the banking sector. She
has published more than 40 academic papers and completed 30 studies
in the fields of project, corporate and public finance. Her professional
interest is in analysing financial options available to enterprises and in
financial appraisals of projects in transport infrastructure, energy effi-
ciency, and restructuring of private and public enterprises.
Carl Tidemann is a Ph.D. Scholar from the Fenner School of
Environment and Society, Australian National University. His research
focuses on the decarbonisation of the Australian electricity sector and
the role of different actors in that task. He has an interest in all facets of
policy making and has published on the integration of environmental
concerns in international trade. He received his B.Sc. (Hons. 1st class)
from the Australian National University. As well as research, he provides
policy advice to a number of non-government organisations working to
promote ambitious climate and energy policy in Australia.
Dr. Umut Turksen is a Professor in Law at Coventry Law School,
UK. He has extensive expertise in the EU energy security and financial
crimes law. He has provided consultancy to prestigious international
businesses and government projects. These include technical assistance
