Thisbookaboutmeniswrittentohelpwomenunderstandtheoftenstrangeand
perplexing behavior of the men in their lives. There’s no reason men might not
readitaswellsincethebookiswrittentohelpmenandwomengetalongbetter.
Ifit’struethatwehaveasexwargoingon,thenallofuslosebynotmakingpeace
and getting on with the pleasant task of loving and enjoying each other.
Thisbookisapracticalguide,butforreaderswhowantsomethingmoreaca-
demic, a book I wrote entitled Working with Troubled Men: A Contemporary
Practitioner’s Guide (2005), written specifically for psychotherapists is available
through Lawrence Erlbaum Publishers (http://www.erlbaum.com).
Parts of this book were written while I was living in Southern California and
teachingatauniversity.Iamnowwritingbooksfull-timeandserveasdirectorof
the Institute for Personal Growth: A Consulting, Research, and Training Coop-
erative serving people’s needs that are often ignored by psychotherapists and the
media. Men are one of those ignored areas of concern. I’m not sure why since
men seem to be having their share of problems these days from lagging behind
womenineducationalachievement,tohavingmorehealthproblems,andtosig-
nificant amounts of alcoholism drug abuse, crime, and violence. When men do
badly, we all suffer. So, for the reader who makes this journey into the world of
men, God bless and good journey.
