ABOUTTHEAUTHOR
Rolf H. J. Schlegel, PhD, is Director of Research & Development at
HYBRO-TEC in Aschersleben, Germany. He is also a professor of
cytogeneticsandappliedgenetics,withoverthirtyyearsofexperience
in research and teaching in advanced genetics and plant breeding. Dr.
Schlegelistheauthorofmorethan150researchpapersandotherscien-
tific contributions, a co-coordinator of international research projects,
and a member of several international scientific societies. He has also
been a scientific consultant at the Bulgarian Academy of Agricultural
Sciencesforseveralyears.Hereceivedhismaster’sdegreeinagricul-
ture and plant breeding, and his PhD and DSc in genetics and
cytogenetics from the Martin-Luther University Halle/S. in Germany.
Later, he became Head of Laboratory of Chromosome Manipulation
andtheDepartmentofAppliedGeneticsandGeneticResourcesatthe
Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research in Gatersleben,
Germany,andHeadoftheGenebankattheInstituteofWheatandSun-
flowerResearchinGeneralToshevo/Varna, Bulgaria, as well as at the
Institute of Plant Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering in
Kostinbrod/Sofia,Bulgaria.
