Preface
This book is a collection of contributions of the invited talks from the International
Conference on Electron and Photon Impact Ionization and Related Topics which was
held in Metz, France, from 18 to 20 July 2002.
The meeting brought together more than 80 scientists, from 13 different countries,
working in the fields of simple and multiple ionization by electron and photon impact, as
well as related topics. The programme included 24 invited talks and 48 posters on recent
experimental, theoretical and computational achievements in the realization,
interpretation and modelling of correlated processes involving a wide range of targets
(atoms, molecules and surfaces). A full session was dedicated to the interaction of
electrons, photons and ions with biological matter. Indeed, atomic collision data are
necessary in numerical simulations of radiobiology experiments such as cellular
irradiation. In addition to the invited talks, a special session with short oral presentations
gave most of the participating teams the opportunity to have their posters advertised.
