Lo cierto es que dos pontífices del siglo pasado, Pío Nono yLeón XIII, respaldados por 850 obispos, propusieron por tres veces labeatificación de Cristóbal Colón a la Sacra Congregación de Ritos; pero ésta,después de un detenido examen del caso, rechazó rotundamente la postulación.Este pequeño libro sólo debe verse como una variación(en el sentido musical del término) sobre un gran tema que sigue siendo, por lodemás, misteriosísimo tema… Y diga el autor, escudándose con Aristóteles, queno es oficio del poeta (o digamos: del novelista) “el contar las cosas comosucedieron, sino como debieron o pudieron haber sucedido”.
