Abstract
An investigation was conducted to know the status of nutrient content in
non flooded/upland rice soils of selective agro climatic zones (ACZ) of Karnataka
and to study the effect of different silicon sources on zinc and phosphorus
interaction, growth and yield of aerobic rice. As many as 78 samples were
collected to know the status of nutrients in soil. Among different agro climatic
zones, soils of hilly zone were acidic with low available silicon and most of the
soil representing eastern dry zone recorded low organic carbon, available nitrogen,
phosphorus, sulphur and zinc content. In the green house pot culture experiment on
aerobic rice, the treatment receiving zinc @ 7.5 kg ha-1 recorded highest (93.20
cm) plant height at 90 DAS, compared to 88.60 cm in control plot. Application of
zinc @ 7.5 kg ha-1 also recorded higher number of tillers than lower levels.
Application of P O @ 75 kg ha-1 recorded higher yield and nutrient uptake.

Among different zinc levels, application of zinc @ 7.5 kg ha-1 recorded higher
yield and growth response. Chaffy grains per panicles were significantly less
(15.00) in diatomite treated plants than wollastonite (21.00) and control plants
(24.90).The content and uptake of phosphorus, zinc and silicon was significantly
higher in plants treated with diatomite than plants not treated with silicon and plant
treated with wollastonite.
