On behalf of everyone at Don Johnson Angus, I would like to thank you
for taking the time to check out this year’s offering. We have done a cou-
ple of things different this year. First off, which you can see, is the catalog
is a lot more colorful.With a photographer in the family, a catalog with a
lot of photos was a necessity. Secondly, we listened to our customers and
freeze branded all the bulls. We know this will be an advantage for you
as an easy way to identify bulls in the future.
As we hold our 22nd sale, we continue to focus on our main goal – pro-
ducing bulls for the commercial cattleman with a moderate birthweight,
no creep, docile, fertile and high performance. In addition, we continue
to visual evaluate for structural soundness and eye appeal. Last year we
fed the brothers of the bulls in the 2017 sale. Of the 35 we sold in June
they all graded Choice or better with 19 qaulifying for CAB and 2 grad-
ed prime. For us, this just reinforced that our genetics are producing the
end product, quality beef.
Ten heifers are being sold this year that Don selected. They are 10 from
the keeper pen. These 10 represent the make up of those we are retaining
and what we find important in a cow herd. The heifers are at farm and

We started using Investment two years ago because of his ease of calving with extreme
growth. Last year, a son was the second-high seller and nine sons average $4,260. We
like his calves for depth of body, thickness and added muscle. Daughters are calving
now with ease and look to be nice additions to the herd.

Angus Valley was original selected as a calving easy bull that had eye appeal and growth.
Our top selling bull in 2016 was a son of Angus Valley as well as the top selling heifer in
2017. Now that we have daughters in production, we are truly pleased with their fantas-
tic udders and moderate milk.

We selected Weigh Up as a bull that would cover all the bases. He is in the top
1% for $Beef. His calves look to be moderate framed, big middled with shape and
dimension. We are excited to get his daughters into production. Unfortunately,
Weigh Up is not producing semen anymore and we will have a few calves from
him next year.

Tour of Duty caught our eye because he combines the three “P’s” of pedigree,
performance and phenotype. He was the #1 sire of progeny registered by the
American Angus Association this past year. He has added length and docility that
appears to be transferring to his sons. Check out his fall yearling sons. Additional
