LT. JONATHAN J. PARRIES is Commanding Officer,
Public Relations and Education Division,
Cleveland Fire Department.
As Public Education Officer, he addresses
civic organizations, churches, schools, commu-
nity groups, as well as hospitals, nursing
homes, high rises and office buildings in the
areas of fire prevention and education.
A 15-year veteran of the Cleveland Fire De-
partment, he is cofounder of the Cleveland Fire
SAVE-A-LIFE PROGRAM. Since the inception of this smoke detector pro-
gram in 1992, fire fatalities in the City of Cleveland have dropped to a
50-year low.
The recipient of numerous awards for his efforts in fire prevention
and education—including the National Fire Protection Association’s
LEARN NOT TO BURN SAFE CITIES CHAMPION AWARD—Lt. Parries
is the recipient of the Rotary Club of Cleveland’s RECOGNITION AWARD
FOR OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENT IN COMMUNITY SERVICE.
Selected as a Community Hero Torchbearer for the 1996 Olympic Torch
Relay, Lt. Parries carried the Olympic Torch in June 1996 as it journeyed
through Cleveland, heading towards the Olympic Games in Atlanta.
