The purpose of this directory is to provide a telephone and address list of the organizations
and agencies that provide services and/or support to people in Montana with developmental
disabilities. The directory is limited in scope by being a telephone and address directory; it
is suggested that you contact the individual organization for specific information on the
services that they offer.
HOW TO USE THIS DIRECTORY
The directory is divided into sections, with each described below. It is hoped that this
layout will allow you to easily locate the information desired. Sections are:
Definition of Developmental Disabilities: The Developmental Disabilities Program adheres
to the State definition of developmental disabilities, as defined in the Montana Codes
Annotated (MCA) 53-20-202, to determine eligibility for contracted services. (Page 2)
Developmental Disabilities Program Offices: The Developmental Disabilities Program is one
of several agencies within the Department of Public Health and Human Services. It is
directly responsible for providing, or contracting, for services for people with
developmental disabilities. The agency consists of five (5) regional offices, four (4) satellite
offices and the state central office. All offices of the agency and its employees are listed.

National Resources: A listing of names and phone numbers of commonly accessed national
resources. (Page 12 - 13)
Contracted Community-Based Service Programs: Many Montana communities offer an
array of services to people with developmental disabilities. This list of contracted
organizations is grouped by region and then alphabetized by town with the provider's name
and phone number. (Pages 14-17)
Telephone and Address Section: This section is alphabetized by organization and lists the
address, telephone number, contact person, e-mail address and website for the
organization. Area code for the State of Montana is (406) (Pages 18-57)

Services Provided Section: This section is a listing by services provided with each
organization name, city and phone number that provides the service. (Pages 58-66)
Special Education Schools and Cooperatives are listed at the end of the directory. (Pages
67-75)
DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES DEFINITION
Developmental disabilities affect many Montanans. Mental retardation, autism, cerebral
palsy, and epilepsy are some conditions commonly referred to as developmental disabilities.
The definition of "developmental disabilities" as legislatively defined in section 53-20-202
of the Montana Codes Annotated (MCA) is:
"'Developmental disabilities' means
disabilitiesattributable to mentalretardation, cerebralpalsy, epilepsy, autism, oranyother
neurologically disabling condition closely related to mental retardation and requiring
treatment similar to that required by mentally retarded individuals if the disability
originatedbefore theperson attainedage 18, has continuedor can be expected to continue
indefinitely, andresults in the person having a substantial disability."(53-20-202, MCA,
1979)
