Abstract
Thepresentthesisdealswiththedesignofaplanarantennaarrayforthecommunication
betweenacivilaircraft(DassaultAviation’sFalcon)andanInmarsatsatellite.Thefinalgoal
istoprovidehighspeedInternetaccessinX/Ku-Band(8-12GHz/12-18GHz),andpossibly
eveninK/Ka-Band(18-27GHz/17-40GHz). ThestudystartswiththeKu-Bandonly,then
evolvestowardsthetransmissionbandandfinisheswiththeirKa-Bandcounterparts. The
mainconstraintofthethesisisthatthefinalresultshouldbealowprofileantennathatwillbe
easytointegratebelowthefuselageofanaircraft.Atthesametime,theantennahastoprovide
abeamsteeringmechanisminordertotrackthepositionofthetargettedsatellitewhilethe
aircraftismoving. Theusualwaytoachieveitistoimplementsomededicatedelectronic
chipsbeloweachradiatingelementofarray.
DassaultAviationhasitsownalternateandmoremechanicalorientedsolutions. Sincethe
communicationsystemisintendedfortop-notchbusinessjetsproducedinsmallseries,cost
isnothereadecisivecriterion.Thisthesisassumestheexistenceofthebeam-steeringsystem
andconcentratesonaproofofconceptandcarefuldesignoftheantennaelementsthatwill
constitutethefinalarray. Theyhavetosatisfytightconstraintsintermsofsize,returnloss,
mutualcouplingwithneighbors,efficiency,radiationpatternanddualcircularpolarization
quality.Printedmultilayerantennashavebeenretainedasthebestcandidates,andthemain
partsofthethesishavebeendedicatedtotheirstudy.
Thethesisconcludeswiththepresentationofanapparentlycompletelyunrelatedandinde-
pendanttopic,namelythesimulationofnanoscale2DplanarstructuresbasedonGraphene.
TherationaleforthislastchapteristoprovideaprospectivestudyoftheuseofGrapheneto
createavariablecapacitance.Thiscomponentisalwaysneededinthebeamformingnetwork
ofreconfigurableandscanningarrays.Ourlaboratoryisdevelopingadeepknowledgeofthe
electromagneticpropertiesofGraphene-baseddevicesandthesevaricapscouldleadtovery
interestingapplicationsinhighfrequencies,oncetheGraphenetechnologyhasdefinitely
progressed.ThankstoelectrostaticsGreen’sfunctions,avariablecapacitorbasedonGraphene
hasbeensimulated,andaQuantumeffect-theQuantumcapacitanceofGraphene-hasbeen
successfullytackledfromanumericalpointofview.

Résumé
Cetravaildethèses’intéresseàlaconceptiond’unréseaud’antennespourétablirunecommu-
nicationentreunavioncivil(leFalcondeDassaultAviation)etunsatelliteInmarsat.L’objectif
est de fournir une liaison Internet haut débit en bande Ku, et même potentiellement en
bandeKa.L’étudecommenceparlabandederéceptionseule,puisévolueverslabandede
transmissionettermineenfinparleurstranspositionsrespectivesenbandeKa.Lacontrainte
principaledecettethèseestdeproduireuneantenneconformeaussicompactequepossible
pouruneintégrationplusaiséesouslefuselagedel’avion. Enmêmetemps,cettedernière
doitfournirunmécanismedebalayagedufaisceaupourgarderlecontactaveclesatellite
souhaitédurantlevoyage.Lamanièrehabituelledeprocéderdanscecasestd’employerdes
pucesélectroniquesdédiéessouschaqueélémentrayonnantduréseau.
Dassault Aviation dispose de ses propres solutions mécaniques; du fait que ce projet est
destinéàdesavionshautdegammeproduitsenfaiblequantité,lecoûtn’estpasiciuncritère
décisif.Ilestsupposédanscettethèsequelesystèmededépointagedufaisceauestdisponible,
pourpouvoirseconcentrersurlaconceptiondesélémentsquiconstituerontleréseaufinal.
Ilsdoiventsatisfaireàdescontraintesfortesentermesdetaille,d’adaptationd’impédance,de
couplagemutuelaveclesvoisins,derendement,dediagrammederayonnementetenfinde
qualitédeladoublepolarisationcirculaire.Lesantennesimpriméesmulti-couchesontété
retenuescommeétantlesmeilleurescandidats,etlaplusgrandepartiedutravailestdédiéà
leurétude.
Lathèseseconclutsurunsujetapparemmentéloignédeceluidesantennes,àsavoirlasimu-
lationdenano-structures2DplanairesbaséessurduGraphène.Laraisond’êtredecedernier
chapitreestd’étudierl’emploipossibleduGraphènepourcréerdescapacitésvariables.Ce
composantesttoujoursrequispourlaconceptionderéseauxd’antennesreconfigurablesouà
balayage.Notrelaboratoireestentraindedévelopperunsavoir-fairedanslamanipulation
despropriétésélectromagnétiquesduGraphèneetcesvaricapspourraienttrouverdesappli-
cationsàhautesfréquences,dèsqueleGraphèneatteindraunniveaudematuritésuffisant.
GrâceauxfonctionsdeGreenélectrostatiques,unecapacitévariableaétéainsisimuléeetun
effetQuantique-lacapacitéQuantiqueduGraphène-aétécaractériséenumériquement.
