Das Stuck lebt von seinen raschen Dialogen und prallen Charakteren, allen voran dem Dorfrichter selbst. Nur Kleists Humor, sein Sprachwitz und der versohnliche Schluss des Stucks verhindern, dass aus dem Komodienstoff eine Tragodie wird, denn letztlich handelt das Stuck von Vertrauen und Vertrauensmissbrauch. Der “Krug” ist ein Meisterwerk des Lustspiels und gehort zu den meistgespielten Stucken auf deutschsprachigen Buhnen.
