Preface
ItisourgreatpleasuretowelcomeyoutoDASFAA2015,the20theditionoftheInter-
nationalConferenceonDatabaseSystemsforAdvancedApplications(DASFAA2015),
which was held in Hanoi, Vietnam during April 20–23, 2015. Hanoi (Vietnamese:
Hà Nô.i), the capital of Vietnam, is the second largest city in Vietnam and has col-
lected all the essence, uniquefeatures, and diversificationof Vietnamese culture.The
cityispreservingmorethan4000historicalandculturalrelics,architectureandbeauty
spots,inwhichnearly900relicshavebeennationallyrankedwithhundredsofpagodas,
temples,architecturalworks,andsceneries.Handcraftstreetsandtraditionalhandcraft
villagesremainprominentandattractivetotouristswhenvisitingHanoi,manyofwhich
centeredaroundtheHoanKiemLakeintheOldQuarter,closetotheconferencevenue.
HanoihasrecentlybeenincludedonTripAdvisor’slistofbestdestinationsintheworld,
ranked8thamongtheworld’stop25destinations.
Wearedelightedtoofferanexcitingtechnicalprogram,includingtwokeynotetalks
byAmrElAbbadi(UniversityofCalifornia,SantaBarbara)andLucVincent(Google
Inc.);one10-yearbestpaperawardpresentation;apanelsessionon“BigDataSearch
and Analysis;” a poster session with 18 papers; a demo session with 6 demonstra-
tions; an industry session with 3 full paper presentations; 3 tutorial sessions; and of
course a superb set of research papers. This year, we received 287 submissions, each
ofwhichwentthrougharigorousreviewprocess.Thatis,eachpaperwasreviewedby
atleastthreeProgramCommitteemembers,followedbyadiscussionledbythemeta-
reviewers,and a finalmeta-reviewpreparedfor each paper.At the end,DASFA 2015
accepted63fullpapers(theacceptanceratiois22%).
Two workshops were selected by the Workshop Co-chairs to be held in conjunc-
tion with DASFAA 2015. They are the Second International Workshop on Big Data
Management and Service (BDMS 2015), and the Second International Workshop on
SemanticComputingandPersonalization(SeCoP2015).Theworkshoppapersarein-
cluded in a separate volume of proceedingsalso published by Springerin its Lecture
NotesinComputerScienceseries.
The conferencereceived generousfinancialsupportfrom the Hanoi University of
ScienceandTechnology(HUST).We, theconferenceorganizers,alsoreceivedexten-
sivehelpandlogisticsupportfromtheDASFAASteeringCommitteeandtheConfer-
