Preface
We would like to welcome you to the 2009 Construction Research Congress (CRC)
sponsored by the Construction Institute (CI) of the American Society of Civil
Engineers (ASCE) and hosted by the University of Washington. The theme of
“Building a Sustainable Future” is one that reflects a priority for construction
professionals. It is only fitting that the Congress is held in picturesque Seattle, a city
known worldwide for environmental preservation and sustainable development.
The two-volume Proceedings contain 152 peer reviewed papers covering 16 general
state-of-knowledge research topic areas in construction engineering and management.
There were 285 abstracts initially submitted that were reduced to 167 accepted draft
papers following a peer review. From this, a final 152 papers were accepted for
publication and presentation based on the same double peer review process used in
abstract selection.
We are delighted to see that this event is truly global with representation from 16
foreign countries including Canada, Colombia, Thailand, Israel, United Kingdom,
Saudi Arabia, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Japan, Brazil, Australia,
Turkey, and South Africa.
