Patricia J. Lancaster is vice president in charge of
public/private development for the northeast re-
gion at LCOR Incorporated. Prior to joining LCOR,
Inc., Ms. Lancaster was assistant vice president for
the Department of Planning, Design and Construc-
tion at Columbia University in the city of New York,
where she headed up a five year $850 million capital
program. Her responsibilities included long-term
campus planning, new projects development, space
utilization studies, and developing space rational-
ization and reorganization plans to accommodate
immediate and future needs.
In 1994, Ms. Lancaster was named the first woman
deputy commissioner for design and construction with the Department of
General Services of New York City, where she managed a staff of 600 people
with an annual construction budget of $500 million. Her 20 years of experi-
ence includes real estate development of Penn Station, the Foley Square
Office Building, and a mixed-use building for Rutgers University with
LCOR, Inc., as well as associations with top architectural firms, such as
Perkins and Will and Michael Lynn, where she was associate director for
interiors.
Ms. Lancaster is presently responsible for structuring and implementing
public/private partnerships. She is currently working on financing, design-
ing, building, and operating real property assets. She earned her Masters
degree in architecture and is a licensed real estate broker and registered
architect in the state of New York. She is a member of AIA, ADPSR, SCUP,
AAPA, and a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, and a fellow
of the Institute for Urban Design. In May, 2000 she was named one of the
top 100 women in Real Estate by “Real Estate Weekly.”

Acknowledgments
On May 22, 1996 Lenore Janis took me to lunch at the Princeton Club in
New York City, and introduced me to M.D. Morris. Lenore is the President
of Professional Women in Construction and M.D. is the only man in con-
struction to wear a brown tuxedo to formal events. M.D. asked me to write
this book that day, and ever since has been a constant source of support and
encouragement. Madelaine Stoller, Herb Bienstock, and Edith and Cyril
