Preface
This volume contains a selection of papers presented at the Fifth International
Workshop on Computer Aided Systems Theory (CAST), which was held in
Innsbruck (Tyrol/Austria) in May 1995.
Over the last years CAST research has become rather stable in the sense that
the common Paradigms to be followed are today generally accepted by the
interested groups such as theoreticians, tool-makers, designers, or appliers.
This we believe is reflected in this volume.
In section 1 (Systems Theory), new approaches for the development of
systems theory, as required to provide theoretical frameworks for complex
modelling tasks, are presented. Section 2 (Design Environments) gives an
insight into different developments of method base systems and their
architectures, which are crucial for the success of CAST in practical
applications. Section 3 (Complex System Design) deals with methodological
means to control complexity in engineering design tasks. Finally, section 4
(Specific Applications) presents some concrete examples of applied research,
which can be embedded into the topics of CAST research.
EUROCAST'95 was organized by the Institute of Informatics, of the
University Innsbruck, with administrative support from the Institute of
Systems Science, Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria, and the C.I.I.C.,
Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.
The co-sponsorship of IFSR (International Federation of Systems Research)
and IFIP (International Federation of Information Processing) is gratefully
acknowledged.
