This series includes those positions which
are responsible for servicing or supervising
the servicing of radio transmitting equipment,
electronic circuit repair or adjustments
which affect transmitter power frequency or
modulation. Thefollowing is ageneral overview
of the responsibilities and qualifications for
the Communications Equipment Technician
positions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performsjourney-levelelectronictechnician duties
• Repairs, adjusts, calibrates a variety of radio
transmittingequipmentandrelatedcommunications
circuitry
• Diagnosesandcorrectscircuitfailuresinavariety
ofcomplex electronicequipment items
• Participatesintheinstallationofantennasystems,
wiring, and interconnection ofequipment
• Makes use of hand tools, soldering gun, and
various electronictestequipment
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion offouryears ofhigh school
• Two years of technical school with course work
in electricity, electronics, and communications
systems
• Knowledgeofpractical electronicsandelectronic
testequipmentoperation and application
• MustobtainavalidF.C.C.licensureorsubstitutable
certification by an approved organization. *

• Functions as a lead worker and advanced
technical specialist in the maintenance and
repair of complex radio communications
equipment
• Trains othertechnicians
• Responsibleforoneofthemajoragency-wide
service programs
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion offouryears of high school
• Twoyearsoftechnicalschoolwithcoursework
inelectricity,electronics,andcommunications
systems
• Twoyearsexperienceinland/mobiletwo-way
radio communications servicework
• Must obtain a valid F.C.C. licensure or
substitutable certification by an approved
organization. * Examples of acceptable
accreditation are (1) FCC General
Radiotelephone license, (2) Certification by
the National Association of Business and
Educational Radio (NABER), (3) Personal
Communications Industry Association
(PCIA), (4) Association of Public Safety
Communications Officials (APCO)
Salary range (effectiveJanuary 2008):
$3836to $5776 month

• Oversees the proper and reliable functioning of
theagency’sextensivecommunicationsnetwork
of microwave and multiplex communications
equipment
• Determines and schedulesworkpriorities
• Requires extensivetravel
• Requires availabilityon a24 hourbasis
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion offouryears of high school
• Three years of progressive experience in land/
mobile two-way radio communications servicing
work
• Extensive knowledge of practical electronics
and electronic test equipment operation and
application
• MustobtainavalidF.C.C.licensureorsubstitutable
certification by an approved organization. *
