Introduction
This textbook comprises six chapters: introduction; radiofrequency amplifiers;
sinusoidaloscillators;amplitudemodulation,demodulationandfrequencymixing;
anglemodulationanddemodulation;andphaselockloop.Eachchapterisnarrated
in the logical sequence of concept introduction, circuit composition, mechanism,
detailed calculation or analysis, and circuit applications. To encourage better un-
derstanding, well-designed examples and problems are included in each chapter
forreaders.
We looked through various domestic and international textbooks of related
subjects during years of teaching experience. While extracting the knowledge es-
sence and emphasizing in-depth and comprehensive understanding of concepts
andprincipleswithutmostsignificance,wefeelurgenttoupdatemainstreamappli-
cations and help our readers keep up with the modernization of technology in the
meantime.Thisbookcanserveasapreliminaryintroductiontotheworldofcom-
munication electronic circuits for engineering majors in university education. It
alsoworksasagoodhandbookforresearchersandengineers.

Acommunicationelectroniccircuitisoneofthecorecoursesofelectronicinformation
major.Thiscourseaimsathelpingstudentsmasterthecomposition,principle,proper-
tiesandanalysismethodologyofbasicfunctionalcircuits.Withtheindependentpar-
allel experiment course, students are also trained for the techniques of designing,
installationandtestingthosecircuitsalongwiththeabilityofcircuitanalysis,design
andapplication.Ithelpsstudentsbuildsolidandnecessaryfoundationforfutureand
practical work. The book covers the transitional area between low-frequency and
high-frequency wireless circuits. Specifically, it introduces the fundamental physical
principlesrelated to the operation of a typical wireless radio communication system
andfunctionalcircuitmodules.Itisdifferentfromothertextbooksthatwearenotat-
tempted to discuss all the possible topics related to wireless communication circuits
and system. However, many textbooks cover wireless communication systems com-
prehensively but with relatively few details, which are not suitable for students’ in-
depth self-study. In this textbook, we have chosen some topics to discuss in more
depth, and thus provide detailed mathematical derivations, applied approximations
andanalogies.Inourexperiences,thechosentopicsaresuitableforaonesemester,
3hperweek,seniorundergraduateengineeringmajor.Ourintentionistoprovidea
logical relation that flows smoothly from one chapter to the next, hoping that the
readerswillfinditeasytounderstandit.OurmaininspirationinwritingthisEnglish
textbook came from the requirement of bilingual teaching for the students of our
school,inHangzhouDianziUniversity.Some authorswrite textbookcoveringmany
topics at a high level. Other similar books cover fewer fundamental principles with
more details. We choose the latter according to our undergraduate level. All of the
contentsinthistextbook are focusedonthe basicconceptsand fundamental radio-
frequency circuits working principles, which will provide necessary knowledge and
abilities for engineering students entering the field of wireless communication elec-
tronics.Therefore,theintendedpotentialreadersforthisbookare,primarily,senior
undergraduateelectronicengineeringstudentspreparingfortheircareersincommu-
nicationelectronics.Meanwhile,ourhopeisthatgraduateengineeringstudentswill
findthisbookausefulreference.
Thebookcoversthefollowingtopics:
(1) Introductiontothebasicknowledgeofthecommunicationelectronicscircuits.
This chapter serves as a preliminary introduction to the communication elec-
tronic circuit system. Contents include the working principle of basic receiver
andtransmitterunits,operatingprincipleofLCresonantcircuitincludingreso-
nancecondition,resonantcharacteristics,resonantcurvesandthefunctionsin
thecircuit,aswellascharacteristicsofnonlineardevices.
(2) Radiofrequency amplifiers. Both small signal tuned amplifiers and class-C large
poweramplifiersareanalyzedindetail.High-efficiencypoweramplifierclass-E,
class-Fandclass-EFpoweramplifiersarebrieflyintroducedaswell.

(3) Sinusoidaloscillators.Inthischapter,westudyvarioustypesofoscillators.The
main focus is the understanding of principles of different oscillators, together
withthecomparisonoftheiradvantagesanddisadvantages.
(4) Amplitude modulation, demodulation and frequency mixing. The mechanism
and typical circuits of amplitude modulation and demodulation processes are
discussed.
(5) Angle modulation and demodulation. The mechanism and typical circuits of
frequency/phasemodulationanddemodulationprocessesarediscussed.
(6) Phaselock loop.It discusses the importantcontrol circuitsin modern commu-
nication electronics of phase lock loop including its basic principle, circuit
composition,mathematicalmodelandapplications.
