1. Before beginning,r emovet he magazine,a nd
cycle the action to cock the hammer. Push out
the takedown pin(it will not push out all the
way), locateda t the upper rear of the grip frame
toward the risht.
2. When the pin is in the pulled out position,
tip the barrel and receiver assemblyu pward at
the rear.
3. To separateth e barrel and recieveru nit
from the stock and grip frame assemblyp ush
the pin out until is stops and then separateth e
two unlts.
In older models:R emovet he
cap screw at the left end of the
recevierp ivot. It will be neces-
sary to stablizet he screw slotted
heado f the pivot with another
large screwdrivero n the right
side during removal. Use a slim
drift punch that will not damage
the interior threadst o nudget he receiverp ivot out toward the right.
4. Use the chargingh andlet o start
the bolt assemblyt oward the rear,
the charging handle will only go
out so far, then pull the bolt assem-
blv from the rear of the receiver.
5. Be sure the chargingh andle is all the way to the rear
(until it stops),t hen gently lift up and move it out from the
rear of the receiver.
6. Remove only for repairs.
The charging handle latch and
its spring are retainedi n the
handleb y a vertical roll pin.
7. Use a small tool to pull out the cotter
pin on the left side of the bolt carrier, to free the
firing pin. Removet he firing pin toward the
rear.
8. Rotatet he bolt cam pin to clear its
flange from beneatht he edge of the
overhand,a nd removet he bolt cam pin
upward.
9. Remove the bolt from the front
of the bolt carrier.
10. The
extractora nd
its coil spring are retainedi n the bolt by a cross
pin which is easily pushedo ut in either direction.
11. The ejectora nd its
spring are retainedb y a
small roll pin that crosses
the front of the bolt. The
ejectors pring is quite
strong,s o restraint he ejec-
tor during removal(shownt o the right).
**Only
remove for repairs-bestl eft to an
experienced gunsmith. The gasc ylinder is
retainedb y two allen screwso n the top of
the bolt carrier,a nd thesea re stakedi n
place.

14. During removal, take care that the gas
transfer tube is not damaged. The combina-
tion front sight base,g as port unit, and
bayonetm ount is retained on the barrel by
two large crossp ins, thesea re drifted out
toward the right, the unit can be nudged
forward off the barrel.
15. This shouldn ot be removed. Theg asc onduiti s
retainedin the sightu nit by a roll crossp in.
16. tnserta smallt ool in oneo f the
holesa t the top of the largec lip-ring at
the front of the receiver,a nd gentlyp ry
the ring out of its channel. Moving it
rearwardw ill relievet he tensiono f the
circulars pringa ssemblyth atp owers
the handguards lip-ring.
17. Movet he slip-ringt o ther eart o give access
to the toothedb arrelr etainingn ut, andu nscrew
then ut counter-clockwis(ef ront view). Thkeo ff
ther etainingn ut, slip-ring,s pringa nd clip ring
towardt he front.
18. Caution: The covers pring will be released
as the pin is cleared,s o restrain it. Take care
that the very small c-clip is not lost. Thel ongp in
whichf ormst heh ingef or ejectionp ort coveri s
retainedb y a c-clipi n a grooven eari ts forwarde nd.
Takeo ff the c-clip andm ove the hingep in out
towardt he rear.
19. Restrain the hammer and pull the
trigger to lower the hammert o fired posi-
tion. Pusho ut the hammerp ivot pin
toward either side,c ontrolling the hammer
againsti ts spring tension. Removet he
hammer and its spring upward. The
spring is easily detachedf rom the ham-
mer.
24. Pusht het riggerp in just far enough
towardt her ight thatt he disconnectoisr
cleareda, ndr emovet he disconnectofrr om
thet op of theg rip frame. Notep ositionf or
reassembly.
21. Set the safetyh alfway
betweeni ts two positions,a nd
use a nylon drift punch on the
right sidet o nudgei t toward
the left, then remove it.
**Note
the plunger and spring
on the right side of the grip
frame; during reassemblyy ou
will needt o depressth e
plunger and spring while
inserting the safety.
22. Removet he triggerp in completelyo ut of the grip frame,
andt akeo ut the triggera ssemblyu pward. The trigger springa nd
disconnectosr pringa ree asilyd etachedfr om the trigger.
23. Tlnem agazinec atchi s removedb y pushingi t toward
thel eft beyondi ts normalmagazinere leasep oint, then
unscrewingth e catchp iece(countecr lockwise)f rom the
button. The button and spring are then takeno ff toward the
right, andt he catchp iecet owardt he left.
24. Thehold opend evicea ndi ts springa rer etainedo n the left
sideo f the grip frameb y a roll pin, anda fterr emovalo f the pin
thev aret akeno ff towardt he left.
25. Caution the spring is under
great tension. Restraint he recoil
buffera gainstt he tensiono f the recoil
spring,a ndd epressth e buffer stop
plunger.S lowly releaseth e tensiono f
the spring, and remove the buffer and spring toward the front.
26. Remove the upper screw in the buttplate and remove
the buttstock toward the rear.W hen the stock is removedu se
caution - this will releasea plunger and spring retainingt he
takedownp in the at the rear of the grip frame. Remove the
spring and plunger from the rear of the grip frame and then
the takedownp in can be removedt oward the right. Re-
moval of the lower screwi n the buttplatew ill give acesst o
the mechanismo f the
storagec ompartment
cover and its latch.
27. T\e pistol grip is removedb y backingo ut a screw
accessiblteh rought heb ottomo f theg rip. Notet hatt his
will alsor eleasea safetyp lungera ndi ts springf or re-
movald ownward.
28. Thelower
sectiono f the
triggerg uardi s
retaineda t the
rearb y a ro11c rossp in. After this is removed,t he
sectionc anb y swung downward, and a very
small roll pin in its forward hinge will be exposed
for removal. The hinge pin can then be takeno ut
toward the right, and the lower sectionr emoved.
ReassemblyT ips
When replacing the cocking handle, remembert hat its forward end must be inserted into the
receivera nd then moved forward into its track
When replacingt he bolt pin in
the bolt carrier,n ote that the
extractorm ust be orientedt o
the upper right and the ejector
to the lower left. Also remem-
ber to turn the bolt cam pin so
its flange is beneatht he edgeo f the gasc ylinder.
