ED TECH– OPERATIONS
Overview of Operations
Our responsibility to the campus community is to provide general access to
computers, software and support in an area that is suitable to research,
teaching and peer to peer sharing of information.

There are labs (264 seats) in General Use Lab (GUL), they consist of the Blue,
Green, Gold, Purple, White and Red PC labs and Mac A and C Macintosh
labs. The Red lab is the only lab not used for classroom instruction and is
available for use during open hours and some holidays.

The Graduate Research Center (GRC) provides a quiet environment for
writing and research it is for use by graduate students and faculty. The lab has
25 wireless and 12 hardwired PC workstations. Within the lab you can scan
text, create high quality 35mm slides and produce posters ranging in size from
8.5in x 11in. to 36in x 96in.

The Adaptive Computer Lab (ACL) offers accommodations via computers
and software for students with Orthopedic, Visual and Learning disabilities,
Deafness or hearing impairments, Acquired brain injuries and Communication
disorders. Students using the ACL are referred by the Ross Center.

Services & Responsibilities

The staffs of the GUL, GRC and ACL are on the front line of the department, we offer
support to all university students, faculty and staff, providing access to technology via
computer lab availability, mobile classroom access, adaptive technology
accommodations, print services, poster creation assistance and licensed software
installation and support.

In any given semester we have upwards of 30-35 students, without whom we could not
do what we do on a daily basis.

FY 2010 Accomplishments & Key Statistics


Installation of the new print card procedure for Pharos Pay-for-Print process allowing for
vendor change and updates.


Installed additional satellite print stations in Campus Center, Wheatley Hall and the
Science Building.


Created Adaptive Technology workshops - in conjunction with Caroline and the Training
portal. Replaced hardware & upgraded software in the ACL.


The replacement of 58 computers within the Blue and White labs. (purchase complete,
installation scheduled for August 13th.)


Purchase/replacement of cart for laptop mobile classroom, allowing for easy maneuver
and better wireless access.


Began collaboration between Instructional Designers and the Adaptive Technology
specialist to bring universal design to online instruction.


Moved all of the lab servers to the data center
